This little market town offers a traditional town centre with a mix of independent retailers and a castle which has one of the smallest Norman keeps in the UK; it's also one of Lancashire's oldest buildings. If you fancy taking your exploration of its heritage further pay a visit to the renowned Cowman's Sausage Shop, for sausages as they should be!

The region has some of the UK's finest unspoilt countryside; move out of town and you have a wealth of stunning landscapes to explore, some of which inspired a visiting JRR Tolkien when he spent time at Stonyhurst College. In the author's time at Stonyhurst there was a ferry over the River Hodder that strongly resembled the 'Buckleberry Ferry'. Similarly, the grey stone New Lodge is often thought to have inspired Tom Bombadil's home from the famous saga. Of course, the best way to find out how much Tolkien was inspired by the region is to explore the delightful 'Tolkien Trail'.

Whilst enjoying a peaceful, rural location, Wolfen Mill is also very accessible making it the perfect base from which to explore all that the area has to offer. Preston is 12 miles away, Clitheroe, 10 miles, and Lancaster, 17 miles. The Pennines, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Wyre Valley and the Fylde Coast are easily accessible, as well as Blackpool, 24 miles, and Lytham St Annes, 25 miles. The area is great for walking with lots of dedicated trails and footpaths. Other activities available locally include golf, cycling, fishing and horse riding. The area has a great reputation for its pubs and restaurants, or follow the Ribble Valley Food Trail which offers some of the country’s best local produce. Whilst it is the perfect retreat for couples and walkers, there is also lots to do for families, children will enjoy Bowland Wild Boar Park and Clitheroe Castle, as well as Blackpool’s many attractions which include Blackpool Tower, Sealife Centre, zoo, Madame Tussauds waxworks, Sandcastle indoor waterpark and the Pleasure Beach. This is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and discover all that the beautiful north west has to offer. After a day exploring, what better way to come back to a warm, cosy holiday home. Beds will be made using high quality linens, and fluffy white towels will be provided. For extra comfort, bathrobes will also be provided for the adults. There is ample parking on site and access to the shared gardens. There is also fishing available on site, it is free of charge and a licence will be required. Guests also have use of the laundry area, where there is a washer and a dryer. There is an additional shared guest lounge, located on the second floor of the main building, with patio doors leading onto a decked balcony overlooking the lake and fells. Courtyard Cottage (ref 30613) and Beech Tree (ref 30617) are both detached, with Beech Tree enjoying its own private garden. Shop and pub 1 mile, restaurant 3 miles.
