Built of Lakeland stone, the cottage is very characterful, with cosy rooms, exposed beams and that all important open fire, Hayrake is also home to other features that you’d expect from such an old property, including the odd squeaky floorboard and uneven floor! Emphasis is more on creating a homely atmosphere than frills and fanciness, however Hayrake is very comfortable and offers everything for the holidaymaker. On three floors, the views get better the higher you go so you may have to toss a coin to decide who will have the top room.

Situated on the edge of the National Park, it is known locally as ’Back o’ Skiddaw’, a walk over which will bring you into the bustling market town of Keswick. Keswick with its lakes, Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water are a 15-minute drive and full of interesting things to see and do. Enjoy a ride up Derwent Water on the Keswick Launch, use the many walking and cycle paths to explore the breathtaking scenery, experience Keswick Spa, the theatre by the lake and the numerous museums suitable for all the family. The traditional market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace, is 14 miles and the historic city of Carlisle and the Scottish border is 16 miles.
