These detached (Spout Crag, ref 27784) ) and semi-detached (Lakeshore, ref 27785)) boathouses are in a superb, secluded position over the water on the shore of Lake Windermere. The boathouses are not only an ideal romantic hideaway and walking base, they also provide the ultimate holiday location for enjoying sailing or water sports on Windermere with direct access to the lake, small pier and boat mooring facilities with each property (storage under the boathouse 8m x 2.5m) with a boardwalk at the side. Visit Hilltop Farm near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her stories, or take a trip to Hawkshead where there is a gallery dedicated to her original drawings and illustrations. Take a trip across Lake Windermere on the leisurely steamer, which connects with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall all within easy reach. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton is a wonderful day out for all the family, as is the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside and Muncaster Castle with its extensive gardens. Excellent walks locally with stunning views, as well as cycling and pony-trekking. Bowness, with its wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants, is just 11/2 miles away.

Ambleside is a superb base for the first time visitor to Lakeland. However, returning tourists to the village will notice a few changes of late and one worthy of a mention is the fantastic new climbing wall, open 12 hours a day, every day for climbers of all ages and abilities, there’s even a taster for ’little monkeys’ from the age of 5. Of course the scenery is one thing that improves year on year, walks on or around the surrounding fells the highlight of any trip to Ambleside, and easily accessible from the property.
Just around the corner from the climbing wall and with two good restaurants either side is Kelsick Court No 1, a modern first floor apartment with a sunny outlook and good facilities for the self catering guest. With a recently fitted modern kitchen and bathroom, the apartment is ideal for the smaller family and for those of you that simply must check in with work while you’re away or for any social network followers, the owners have thoughtfully provided a desktop computer with permanent broadband internet for use during your stay.

The visitor centre at Brockhole, with its 30 acres of award-winning gardens and grounds, is a great place for a trip to this beautiful area. Home to a series of trails, walks, events and activities, it also has an information centre where you can find out all about the local attractions. Close by are Hawkshead and Grasmere. Both villages are inextricably linked to the romantic poet William Wordsworth. Historians and Wordsworth fans alike will find a visit to either Dove Cottage or Rydal Mount an interesting diversion. Wordsworth is not the only literary connection here; both John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter also lived nearby, Ruskin at Brantwood on the shores of Coniston Water, and Beatrix Potter at Hill Top (NT) at Far Sawrey. There are many ways to explore this often frequented area and each visitor chooses his own path, by foot, mountain bike, car, boat or even horse. An ideal holiday base. Shops and pubs 1 mile.
