Just 500 yards from the centre of vibrant Ambleside, Overbeck Cottage is one of two small cottages adjoining Riverside Lodge, a property of immense charm and character in a unique location on the banks of the River Rothay which flows through the grounds of the property before running into Lake Windermere.  Within a level stroll from the cottage you will find a host of restaurants and activities to suit all ages. Ambleside is well served with numerous attractions including two cinemas, the Armitt Museum depicting the life and times of the village, tennis courts, bowling green and even an indoor climbing wall.
Overbeck Cottage is a four star, quality self catering cottage offering great character and charm for two occupants, the perfect choice for a romantic break at any time of the year. The cottage offers mesmerising views of the riverbank from all rooms, across the lush green garden areas and beyond to Loughrigg Fell, very tempting to the walkers among you! Overbeck Cottage has a outdoor patio overlooking the river and a spacious car park just across the private foot bridge from the property.

The property is within a few metres of the River Rothay (which flows through the garden) where fishing is available:

Type of fishing: limited fly fishing. Locals tend to use worm or spinner.

Type of fish: The river holds brown trout. Very occasional late season salmon and sea trout turn up. Chub and roach are possible but unlikely.

Licence: An Environmental Agency rod licence is required. These are available online a href="http://www.postoffice.co.uk/rod-fishing-licence#prices" pathattribute="1" here/a. The stretch of water is outside of WADAA control hence no additional licence is required.

Months: 15th March – 30th September. Closed season is 1st October to 14th March.

Newtown House is part of Muncaster Estates, which includes the historic 12th century Muncaster Castle and beautiful grounds, owned by the Pennington family for the past 8 centuries. This imposing property adjoins Knotts View, and is 1/2 mile from Herbert House, the 3 properties may be let seperately or together for up to 32 people. Newtown House and Knott View are set in over an acre of grounds with lawns and seating and Newton House has views across the Irish Sea. Situated 1/2 mile from Ravenglass, a pretty fishing village on the Cumbrian Coast, with sandstone houses, pubs, hotels, shops and cafes. The Ravenglass and Eskdale narrow gauge railway operates from the village station and travels along the Eskdale valley. Wast Water, England’s deepest lake, Sca Fell our highest mountain and the beautiful Wasdale and Eskdale valleys are all near by and offer great walking. Guests are offered a 50% discount off the entry fee to Muncaster Castle and a 10% discount off meals at the Pennington Hotel.

This is fantastic walking countryside and the elevated position gives views of Scafell and the Eskdale Valley, creating a unique atmosphere of tranquillity. Birkerthwaite Farmhouse (W43001) is a unique holiday property dating back to 1627 and has many original features, beamed ceilings, flagged floors and unusual oak wall cupboards built in the 1700’s. Comfortably furnished and with the benefit of an open fire and an Aga, the farmhouse is cosy and welcoming. Birkerthwaite Stable (W41477) is a single-storey converted stable with rustic charm heated by a log-burning stove. New Park Farm Cottages are situated in one of the most scenic and tranquil area’s of the Lake District, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with an abundance of wildlife; the occasional red squirrel and deer; a wonderful area for bird watching and wild flowers. The cottages have spectacular views in all directions, with stunning sunsets over the Solway Estuary and the Scottish hills.  There are many walking opportunities along flower filled country lanes and local bridleways, perhaps a visit to Bisney or Dash falls.
The nearest towns are Keswick and Cockermouth, both within 10 miles. The lovely Cumbrian villages of Caldbeck, Ireby and Uldale are a short drive away, all have good pubs serving food.
These delightful cottages have been beautifully furnished and equipped to offer very comfortable and attractive accommodation. Outside there is a play area with a slide, swings and climbing frame. There is also a fully equipped games room, with an adjoining laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. There are also BBQ’s available and ample car parking with a garage which is lockable in which bikes can be stored.
