The Cumbrian Heavy Horse centre is nearby where you can ride, visit the tea room or admire the horses, you may even see the horses trekking across the land just below the farmhouse. Also in the valley is Brockwood Hall which has a restaurant, bar and heated indoor swimming pool, open to the public. The southern lakes and fells are easily reached – Coniston Water, Wastwater, Ennerdale Water and Lake Windermere are all within half an hour’s drive. Visitor attractions such as Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Owl Sanctuary, ’La’al Ratty’ miniature steam railway at Ravenglass or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton make wonderful family days out. Black Combe is within walking distance and an energetic ramble to the top (nearly 2,000ft) will reward hikers with the most amazing views of the whole of the southern lakeland fells and over to the Isle of Man on a clear day. The house has been renovated in a boutique hotel style, whilst retaining the features which gave it its grade II listing.
On the ground floor there is a beautiful hand made kitchen with 4 oven Aga, it’s a fabulous space to cook up a gastronomic delight. Next door is a large utility room for those muddy boots and dogs and a very posh downstairs toilet. The large lounge has sumptuous leather Chesterfield sofas to seat up to 20 people in front of the fire. Perhaps Number One’s most special feature is a bar/dining room/party room. We’ve designed the space around get togethers, it has the capacity for the occupants of both number One and Two The terrace to dine together or if you’ve taken even more of our 5 houses on The Terrace you can push the tables back and use the room as your very own bar. There’s even a shuffleboard in the hallway for inter house tournaments.
On the first floor there are 4 double bedrooms each with their own unique style. Bedroom one is a king size with en suite bathroom. Bedroom 2 has a super king size sleigh bed. Wreay Farmhouse Ref: 17337

An inscription over the lake-facing door dates Wreay Farmhouse to 1787, but parts are much older and the house is mentioned in documents from the 13th century. This detached holiday home is full of character with beams, it commands views over Ullswater. Seven of the eight bedrooms overlook the lake. There is a large library of books, videos and classical CDs with good playback equipment in the public areas (where smoking is allowed only). The living room with its open fire is cosy, and the conservatory facing south-east catches the morning sun. Watermillock is admirably placed for visiting the Northern Lakes and fells, with excellent walking and cycling amid splendid scenery. Water sports nearby, and steamers cruise the lake throughout the year. The Brackering Inn (10 mins walk) is noted for its food and the picturesque village of Pooley Bridge (3 pubs) is 2 miles away. The lakeside road meanders over the Kirkstone Pass. Enjoy the spectacular scenery, then drop down into Ambleside and Windermere and Grasmere nearby. Shops 2 miles, pub ½ mile.

The Vicarage Ref: LTP

Down a quiet leafy lane in beautiful countryside just 2 miles from the shores of Coniston Water , this very spacious and attractive, traditional Lakeland house is set in its own private garden. Built in 1767, it enjoys superb views over Lakeland fells, and has been carefully restored whilst retaining many original features to offer comfortably furnished and well equipped family accommodation. The famous town of Coniston, nestling in the Coniston range of mountains, is just 20 minutes’ drive away. The hamlet of Lowick has a cosy and friendly inn serving excellent food only 500 yards from The Vicarage, with many country inns and excellent restaurants in the surrounding area.
The market town of Ulverston (5 miles) offers a choice of shops, inns and restaurants, a championship golf course with superb views over Morecambe Bay, an excellent sports complex with swimming-pool and a Laurel and Hardy museum (Stan Laurel was born in the town). Many activities can be enjoyed in the immediate vicinity, including walking on fell, lakeside or mountain, sailing, wind-surfing and canoeing. The shores of Morecambe Bay are just 2½ miles away, where sea fishing is available. At the Grizedale Forest Enterprise Centre (4 miles), mountain bikes can be hired to cycle along the many forest trails which link the majority of the numerous stone and wood sculptures scattered among the trees. Kendal, the ‘Gateway to the Lakes’, is well worth a visit for its museums, art galleries and pretty cafés and tearooms. The nearby Levens Hall boasts beautifully trimmed topiary gardens as well as a steam-engine collection and café. Lake Windermere 20 minutes’ drive with Bowness a further 10 minutes. Village shop 2 miles.
