An inscription over the lake-facing door dates Wreay Farmhouse to 1787, but parts are much older and the house is mentioned in documents from the 13th century. Black Combe is within walking distance and an energetic ramble to the top (nearly 2,000ft) will reward hikers with the most amazing views of the whole of the southern lakeland fells and over to the Isle of Man on a clear day.
