Find cottages in CanterburyVisit Canterbury

You won't have to travel far to see beautiful coast, country or heritage in Canterbury; the ultimate cathedral city.

There's a lot on offer in Canterbury, from historical adventures to waterside fun you'll find so much to see and do during your visit here. The focal point of the city has to be the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral which was the first Church of England; this historic Gothic-style cathedral dates back to 597 AD and together with St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church, makes up Canterbury's World Heritage Site. Other attractions here include castles, museums and ghost tours.

You're close to the seaside and the coastal resort of Herne Bay with its brightly coloured beach huts and sandy shores, while Whitstable's strong arts culture and rich maritime history blend perfectly with the town's bohemian charm.

There's a range of wildlife parks in the area, including Howletts Wild Animal Park and Wildwood and older ones will love Lazer Rush in Whitstable. Canterbury can be explored by boat, so why not a historic river tour? Travel a few miles out of the city centre and you'll find yourself in the heart of East Kent's glorious countryside, and there are numerous walking and cycling routes for all abilities.

Visit this fascinating city from your holiday cottage in Canterbury.
