There are secluded sandy bays within 10 minutes drive, and sailing, fishing, golf, cycling, swimming and water sports can be found locally. Nearby is Blackgang Chine, the UK’s first theme park which dates back to 1843, and on the west side of the island there is another theme park at The Needles, where the rock formations can be seen. The popular Victorian sandy seaside resort of Ventnor is about 15 minutes’ drive, with its pubs, shops and restaurants and promenade/pier where fresh crab and lobster or catch of the day can be purchased. There is plenty to do on this lovely island, including many NT homes and gardens, such as Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Carisbrooke Castle, Osborne House, the Pearl Centre and Calbourne Water Mill which has 17th century water and stone mills.
