Find cottages in Ross-On-WyeVisit Ross-On-Wye

One of the most accessible of Hereford's towns, Ross on Wye takes you on a journey through time with castles, 17th Century market halls and Tudor timbered houses.

The historic market town of Ross on Wye is perfectly situated for a break in the beautiful Wye Valley; set amongst picturesque south Hereford countryside, close to the Welsh mountains in the west, the Malvern Hills and Forest of Dean.

This ancient town sits on a high sandstone cliff, overlooking peaceful gardens and country walks besides the river Wye. Its Tudor timbered buildings surround the 17th century Market Hall where two markets are held weekly. In fact the town centre has retained many of its medieval buildings and beyond the town boundary the surrounding countryside is full of ancient settlements, Roman forts and medieval castles, including nearby Goodrich Castle which dates back to the late 11th century and tells tales of the Civil War with an audio tour and displays.

Take a picnic along with you and visit Symonds Yat, a local beauty spot where the river has carved a dramatic gorge through the towering limestone cliffs. It's also home to rare birds and wildlife, and you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a peregrine falcon.

The natural beauty of Ross on Wye means that there are lots of fantastic opportunities for outdoor activity, and from walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing.

For accommodation in this lovely area search for Ross on Wye holiday cottages.
