Find cottages in LeominsterVisit Leominster

Nestled in the heart of the glorious Herefordshire countryside, within touching distance of the Welsh border, the delightful market town of Leominster exudes an historic charm which is hard to resist.

The centre of Leominster (pronounced 'Lemster') is a charming mix of traditional shops, antique stores, cafes and historic public houses. Indeed, the town could have been made specifically for the purpose of enjoying a relaxing afternoon stroll.

Of all the historic buildings in the town, the oldest is the magnificent Priory Church, which dates all the way back to the 7th century. In addition to the timber-framed splendour of the town itself, Leominster also has a number of visitor attractions.

First opening its doors over 40 years ago, the Leominster Folk Museum houses a fascinating variety of exhibits which tell the story of Leominster, the 'Town in the Marches'. Nature lovers are sure to want to visit the Small Breeds Farm Park and Animal Centre in nearby Kington, where it is possible to meet a friendly collection of horses, donkeys, sheep and owls.

Those who enjoy pursuits of a slightly more energetic nature are well-catered for in Leominster. Part of the Black and White Trail, the rolling landscape of which surrounds the town, is ideal for both walkers and cyclists. Meanwhile, just a few miles from Leominster, Oaker Wood Leisure provides outdoor activities such as paintballing, rope climbing and target shooting.

To experience centuries of history in a glorious countryside setting, with a host of activities near to hand, why not consider staying in this delightful town on your next break? For accommodation see Leominster holiday cottages.

Macs House Ref: RYY6

Macs House is a delightful 100 year old, spacious, detached holiday property which has been significantly modernised and extended over the years. Ideal for family holidays, it is situated in a very peaceful and rural position on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border, a quarter of a mile down a farm track, surrounded by rolling fields, and a huge lawned garden, great for children to work off excess energy and perfect for dining al-fresco. This spacious house has four bedrooms in the main house and a further two bedrooms in a separate annexe, together with a games room. Walking is available from the house - indeed the Herefordshire Trail passes a few hundred yards away. In the nearby village of Bromfield, the Food Centre with a range of farm produce is well worth a visit, and just five miles away is the lovely market town of Ludlow, once described by Betjeman as ‘the most perfect town in England’. With its wonderful medieval and Georgian architecture, including a cathedral-sized parish church, ruined castle and local museum, Ludlow has much to offer the visitor including a wide range of places to shop or eat. Stokesay Castle at Craven Arms and Berrington Hall (NT) near Leominster are a short drive away, and both the Ironbridge Gorge and Severn Valley Railway, perfect for family days out, are within easy reach. The quirky town of Bishop’s Castle with its House on Crutches and variety of small shops tumbling down the high street is well worth a visit, as is Bridgnorth on the River Severn and the city of Hereford with its fascinating cathedral. Shops 6 miles.
