Find cottages in HerefordVisit Hereford

Hereford lies on the River Wye, about 16 miles east of the Welsh border. This lovely part of England offers a wide range of outdoor activities set against a spectacular backdrop, and has an abundance of historical attractions which are testament to the town's rich heritage.

Dating back to 1079, Hereford Cathedral is one of the most prominent landmarks in the town. The cathedral is not only famous for its superb architecture but is also home to Mappa Mundi, a medieval world map that dates back to the 13th Century. The Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is housed in a Victorian Gothic building and offers insight into the history of the region, featuring many fascinating exhibits and artefacts that date back hundreds of years.

Within the area you'll find some stunning country houses including Hampton Court Castle and Gardens, with its ancient maze; an ideal destination for the whole family. Berrington Hall, Brockhampton Estate, Burton Court and the 17th Century Croft Castle are also architectural masterpieces and a day out exploring these buildings and their beautiful gardens is highly recommended. Brobury House gardens, on the banks of the River Wye, offers incredible views of the town's medieval bridge and Westonbury Mill Water Garden is located behind a quaint, 18th-century corn mill.

Hereford sits amongst gloriously unspoilt countryside and anyone who enjoys the great outdoors will be spoilt for choice. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting are all on offer on the River Wye, and pony trekking and horse riding trails meander past the river and into the countryside beyond. For those who enjoy walking, there are several great trails that beg to be explored and cyclists are well provided for with quiet country lanes and cycle paths. For the more adventurous, there is rock climbing and for those who prefer a sedate game of golf, the local course provides a good challenge.

There's plenty to see and do in Hereford, search for Hereford holiday cottages and book your getaway today.
