Find cottages in West MeonVisit West Meon

West Meon is a small village tucked away in the South Downs National Park, located on the headwaters of the River Meon and very near the hills that make up the South Downs Way; this picturesque village offers visitors the perfect chance to immerse themselves in rural country life.

With a history that dates back to the Iron and Bronze Ages, West Meon may be small, but it's packed full of historical attractions and beautiful scenery. Take a step back in time and wander through the village, by the stone cross that is the West Meon's most prominent landmark, or visit the flint church of St John the Evangelist, built in 1846.

The village is also home to a traditional butcher, pub, village store and post office, most of which are housed in listed buildings with oodles of character. West Meon is filled with picturesque stone and thatched cottages and the beautiful gardens and verdant landscapes add to the relaxing atmosphere. A walk along the winding high street will lead you down to the valley where the River Meon flows and watercress is still grown in abundance. This pristine river is also a popular fly fishing destination and supports a thriving wildlife population.

There are plenty for those who enjoy the great outdoors, as West Meon features some of Britain's most beautiful countryside. Enjoy a brisk walk on the South Downs Way, which forms part of the National Park, and admire the chalky cliffs and flint that has been used in buildings all over the village, or stroll over the hills and down into Lippen Wood, where you will find the remains of a Roman Villa that was once home to some of the village's first inhabitants.

Discover this lovely corner of Hampshire when you search for West Meon holiday cottages.
