Situated about half-way between the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth, the historic market town of Fareham offers much to visitors to this pleasant stretch of Hampshire coastline.
A neat mix of old and new, Fareham boasts an excellent shopping centre in addition to a fine collection of historic buildings. The streets in the oldest parts of the town are lined with timber-framed houses and thatched-roof cottages and are a delight to take a leisurely stroll through.
Such is the historic legacy of the town, Fareham is home to over 400 listed buildings. The remains of Portchester Castle, overlooking the Solent, are well-worth visiting, as is nearby Titchfield Abbey. History also comes alive at the mightily impressive Fort Nelson Armouries Museum. Set in an actual 19th century fort, the museum houses a collection of artillery artefacts and holds regular gun-firing demonstrations.
In addition to its own list of excellent attractions, Fareham is ideally located to enjoy the many other attractions that the surrounding area has to offer, as well as the facilities of its larger neighbours, Portsmouth and Southampton. Just six miles out of Fareham, families can enjoy a fun day out at Manor Farm and Country Park. With costumed characters, displays of farm machinery and friendly farm animals to meet, the whole family is sure to love this working farm. You can even try your hand at milking the cows!
Ideally situated on the Hampshire coast, near to both Portsmouth and Southampton, Fareham holiday cottages are an excellent base from which to explore the area.
