Nestling in a sheltered bay and with a Blue-Flag beach, the pretty Victorian coastal resort of Swanage has great views over the sea to the Isle of Wight.
Dinosaurs once roamed this place and this coastline, which is why it's now a World Heritage Site known as the Jurassic Coast. The town itself was a favourite with the Victorians, whose influence can still be seen in this lovely old-fashioned seaside town. Stroll down the restored pier or take a boat trip to explore the coast by sea. Hop aboard the Swanage Railway which pays homage to the town's Victorian history and opertates steam trains which run through some fantastic scenery.
Visit nearby Corfe Castle, which was built in 1086 and in its time was one of the country's greatest strongholds; the pretty village that surrounds it is also worth a visit. Also of historical interest is Durlston Castle which now acts as the visitor centre for Durlston and the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The castle is set within Durlston Country Park, which has a wonderful nature reserve.
From your cottage it's easy access to the town's many events and attractions; such as the jazz, blues and folk weekends, the Swanage Regatta or Carnival week which has spectacular fireworks, music and dancing.
Whether you're diving, sailing, fishing or walking the coastal cliffs, you'll be following the footsteps of generations. Discover Dorset for yourself - search Swanage cottages today.
