Find cottages in Blandford ForumVisit Blandford Forum

Situated between the Dorset Downs and Cranborne Chase and located on the banks of the River Stour is the stunning Georgian town of Blandford Forum. Although Blandford Forum looks like a typical Georgian town, it has actually been a fording point since Anglo-Saxon times.

Much of the town was destroyed in a fire in 1731 and was almost entirely rebuilt over the following 30 years to its present beautiful and flourishing state. A visit to Blandford Forum's local museum tells the full story of the town's rebirth.

As one of the most complete Georgian towns in England, Blandford Forum plays host to a Georgian Fayre, held in the first week of May every other year, combining Georgian celebrations with stalls and a funfair on the meadows along the banks of the Stour.

This area is ideal for lovers of all things equestrian, with many riding stables and bridleways close by for you to explore, or if you prefer to be on two wheels you can explore the stunning off road scenery of the Badbury Rings Cycle Ride, which culminates at Badbury Rings, an Iron Age Hillfort.

If the Badbury Rings gives you the taste for the Iron Age then at nearby Hambledon Hill is Dorset's most impressive Hillfort.

As well as the beautiful scenery, Blandford Forum is a bustling market town and surrounding the attractive market place you will find a host of independent shops and boutiques as well as cafes, restaurants and pubs.

For accommodation in this lovely area please see our selection of holiday cottages in Blandford Forum today.
