The historic town of Tiverton sits at the meeting point of the rivers Exe and Lowman and is the largest town in mid Devon. Once a home to Saxon settlers, Tiverton is now a busy yet still very traditional town that offers a great deal for visitors.
With a small but bustling town centre full of great places to eat and drink, Tiverton is very welcoming and easy to navigate. With canal trips available around the local countryside, horse-drawn carriage rides, a cinema and a number of wine bars and traditional pubs, there is plenty to see and do in the evening.
The area was once a significant centre in the wool trade and there are a number of very well preserved mills in the area that date back hundreds of years, along with a number of impressive merchant's houses and country homes that help to tell the history of the town. What remains of Tiverton castle sits atop a hill above the town and is well worth a visit, offering amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
Just a short distance from Tiverton is Exmoor National Park, where you can engage in all sorts of outdoor activities and pursuits. The park is an area of outstanding natural beauty with amazing moorland that stretches to the coastal cliffs, coves and beaches. Easy access to views across the stunning Devon countryside are a safe bet from our selection of cottages in Tiverton and it's an ideal location for those wanting a break from city and urban life.
