Find cottages in DevonVisit Devon

Devon's status as 'The English Riviera' is well earned and is testimony to the popularity of this holiday destination, which attracts thousands of visitors every year who come to enjoy its special charms.

The county is blessed with two coastlines which are dotted with picturesque fishing ports and mile after mile of clean sandy beaches. The interior consists of a striking contrast of dramatic moorland that includes the Dartmoor National Park and a patchwork of green leafy lanes that criss-cross the region.

Dartmoor actually has two national parks as well as five areas of outstanding natural beauty, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Geopark and Biosphere Reserve. It's also famous as the location for Conan Doyle's 'Hound of the Baskervilles'. It has 368 square miles of windswept, dramatic and uncrowded moors to enjoy!

The English Riviera; Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, are a magnet for those looking for a seaside holiday with lots of attractions and activities for all ages. It also has a rich maritime history, plenty of sporting events and water sports activities.

South Devon is characterised by gentle rolling hills and a lovely coastline, offering easy walks, country pubs and great restaurants, while the northern coast has superb surfing beaches. Exmoor in north Devon is perfect for moorland walks, mountain biking and has wonderful natural beauty.

The many facets of Devon provide visitors with a wide choice of holiday options and lots of top quality visitor attractions and days out, such as the Dartmouth Steam Railway and The National Marine Aquarium; too many to mention here.

Of note is Woolacombe Beach, one of the jewels in Devon's crown with three miles of golden sand of Blue Flag status and the Tarka Trail; its 30 miles forms a figure-of-eight and follows the path the brave otter takes in Henry Williamson's beloved novel.

If you fancy walking on the wild side why not take a trip to one of Devon's many animal attractions? The zoo at Paignton offers an array of exotic creatures and makes for a wonderful day out, while the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm is also very popular with families.

Devon offers a wealth of holiday opportunities so if you're ready for a break take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Devon.

This stunning, detached, contemporary farmhouse is set on its own in the heart of the Culm Valley with the most fantastic views across to the Blackdown Hills (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Wayside House is the perfect place for a short break, an extended holiday or celebration with family and friends. The holiday property provides bathrobes, has a large games room, fantastic outdoor play equipment and a covered, heated swimming pool with separate wet room and changing room - this property really is a fabulous holiday house, and a perfect rural get-away! Adjacent to the pool is a paved terrace with a gas barbecue, and overlooks acres of rolling pasture and farmland. From here there are views across the beautiful Culm Valley into the heart of the Blackdown Hills. There are electric gates and entry phone.
There is so much to see and do locally when visiting Wayside House. This peaceful group of hills which lies on the border of Devon and Somerset has survived almost unscathed by post-war development. To the north the land rises steeply in a dramatic wooded scarp, while to the south it forms a plateau, deeply dissected by valleys. On top of the plateau lie open windswept spaces, while in the valleys, picturesque chertstone, cob and thatched buildings cluster in villages and hamlets, surrounded by a patchwork of small enclosed fields, and accessed down narrow winding lanes with tall hedgerows. Local pubs serving superb food are nearby including a fantastic local shop and cafe in Culmstock village 1 mile away.
Set in a stunning rural location, Wayside House is the perfect sumptous getaway and guests can even take their horse (at an extra cost), as there is spacious comfortable American barn stabling with full livery (optional) just 5 minutes’ walk away. After a long day’s riding, there is the indoor heated swimming pool to relax in. Shop and pub 1 mile.

"...wonderful countryside, stunning beaches and friendly locals - the perfect combination for an unforgettable holiday experience...."

Set in the heart of village life, Court Prior Farm is a lively working farm where lambs are in the pastures, cattle graze in the fields and the smell of the hay fills the air. In season guests may be able to bottle feed the lambs or feed the bullocks. Elderflower Barn (HDDI) and Cowslip Barn (HDDJ) have been converted from the old milking parlour and retain lovely original features, such as stone arch windows, and both have heavy beams and wooden floors. Each holiday property has a good sized lawned rear garden with pretty planted flower tubs and farming machinery decorating the driveway completes these two lovely adjoining properties. All three properties including Pear Tree House (HGGD) combine modern elements such as underfloor heating, vaulted open ceilings, wood-burning stoves and a farmhouse-style kitchen with granite worktops. Shared swimming pool, hot tub and sauna.
Court Prior Farm has an indoor heated swimming pool shared by all properties, with its own shower and pool house with sauna. A hot tub is situated on the terrace amongst the pretty landscaping for all properties to share. All properties have their own changing room, toilet and access into the pool, via their own private patio areas. Elderflower Barn has a large patio area to the side with specimen trees planted into large tubs giving an almost Mediterranean feel. All three properties may be booked together for a wonderful family gathering to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary.
These three holiday properties would make a super location for a winter break, as well as a summer holiday enjoying the many glorious beaches of the South Devon coastline all within easy driving distance. Blackpool Sands is a fantastic family beach just 4 miles away, has a small shop and facilities as well as ample parking, and makes a lovely day out by the seaside. Slapton Sands is a lovely drive, with the sea on one side and the freshwater lagoon on the other. This area is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the birds and wildlife on the lagoon are amazing, so remember to bring a pair of binoculars. A little further along, the relic of the World War One tank can be recovered from the beach. Driving along inland a little way leads to the town of Kingsbridge.
Alternatively guests may enjoy visiting Dartmouth or Totnes, both just 4 miles away and both quite different. Totnes is a lively colourful town, full of different types of ethnic shops, and hosts a busy market day on Fridays and Saturdays. Dartmouth, nestling on the edge of the river Dart, has a strong maritime history and many designer shops and local artists. For great food the famous New Angel is located in Dartmouth, and is the ideal place for a special meal out. More local to the property is the village of Cornworthy - a quiet hamlet tucked away in the rolling Devon landscape - where there is a nice pub within walking distance which serves good food and real ales. There are many village pubs dotted all around this area including places to eat on the river at Tuckenhay, Ashprington and Dittisham.
