Walkers head to Lynton to join the South West Coast Path. Make the most of the dramatic views from alongside the Valley of the Rocks, home to a herd of wild goats. Follow the trail up the East Lyn River, and you will be transfixed by the waterfalls that tumble near the historic Watersmeet House. There is a fine selection of cafes and restaurant in the town, many of which serve fresh, local produce. If shopping is your passion, you will be delighted by the variety of quirky boutiques that line the charming streets.

There is plenty to do for active visitors. Several local stables offer horse-riding days for all ages, and there is a well- used mountain bike trail that runs across Exmoor. Putting and tennis courts are available locally and keen anglers will be pleased to hear that permits are available to fish in the well-stocked East Lyn River.

Nearby Lynmouth Bay is famed throughout the West Country for its huge waves, making it a perfect destination for more experienced surfers. If you prefer a more sedate pace, hop on board one of the fabulous boat rips that regularly depart from the bay. Children will be delighted by a ride on the Victorian Cliff Railway, a charming water powered train service that runs between Lynton and Lymouth. Here, the traveller is treated to unrivalled views across the Bay and, on a clear day, right across to Wales.

Located close to the heart of the clifftop town of Lynton, this holiday home retains the ambience and appearance of how it might have been in the Victorian era. From the sumptuously furnished and decorated bedrooms to the picture collection, this adjoining house offers something very different, and is an ideal destination to spend a holiday or to celebrate a special occasion. Despite its very Victorian appearance, the house is very much geared to modern day requirements, with all the bedrooms having en-suite facilities and televisions. There is a good-sized shared terraced garden at the rear to enjoy the surroundings and guests can enjoy the popular walks to Watersmeet and Valley of the Rocks which can start directly from the door. It is also a short walk to the heart of Lynton, which has a good range of shops, restaurants and amenities. Lynton is connected to its close seaside neighbour Lynmouth by the famous clifftop railway. Lynmouth is delightful and again has a good range of shops and places to eat. There are numerous attractions within easy reach of the house including Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and Watermouth Castle. At Croyde and Woolacombe some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country can be found, as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor has lots to offer including Tarr Steps, the village of Withypool and a walk up Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor. A day out into West Somerset is recommended with places such as Porlock Weir, Dunster with its castle (NT) and the seaside town of Minehead, home to the West Somerset Stream Railway. There are NT properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
