The county is blessed with two coastlines which are dotted with picturesque fishing ports and mile after mile of clean sandy beaches. The interior consists of a striking contrast of dramatic moorland that includes the Dartmoor National Park and a patchwork of green leafy lanes that criss-cross the region.

Dartmoor actually has two national parks as well as five areas of outstanding natural beauty, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Geopark and Biosphere Reserve. It's also famous as the location for Conan Doyle's 'Hound of the Baskervilles'. It has 368 square miles of windswept, dramatic and uncrowded moors to enjoy!

The English Riviera; Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, are a magnet for those looking for a seaside holiday with lots of attractions and activities for all ages. It also has a rich maritime history, plenty of sporting events and water sports activities.

Buddleia is a fabulous, well-furnished, modern holiday property of very generous size, superbly suited to a large family for summer holidays and family gatherings year-round. The owners have renovated it to a high standard to create a wonderful, detached home set in the village of West Charleton, between the riverside town of Kingsbridge and the wide expanse of beach at Slapton Sands, on the South Devon Coast. It has its own private gated driveway and large, enclosed, level, lawned garden - very secluded and south facing. Skirting the rear of the property is a large decked area with glass balustrade, table (seats 12) and steps down to the lawn. To the front is a small pebble Mediterranean-style patio area. This is a very family-friendly holiday home; the large kitchen/dining room forms the main hub of the house and - with its large breakfast bar and bar stools - creates a good social area for cooking, chatting and dining. The separate living room features a 42in plasma TV and wood-burning stove - ideal for cosy nights in during autumn and winter; in summer the large French doors can open up onto the decking. For children, there is an outdoor play area with a slide and swings. West Charleton lies on the A379 - one of the many villages en route from Kingsbridge to Dartmouth. Within 20-30 minutes’ drive are many popular and well-loved locations in South Devon: the yachting haven of Salcombe, the rugged cliffs and tiny coves at Hope Cove and Thurlestone, Bantham Beach (popular with surfers), the busy market town of Kingsbridge, Totnes and Modbury, the famous beaches of Slapton Sands, working fishing village of Beesands, East Prawle - surrounded by NT coastline and close to the Start Point Lighthouse, the little sandy bays at East Portlemouth and the historic maritime town of Dartmouth. "A truly magical estate to escape to and unwind..."

Nestling peacefully high in the hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries, the Webbery Manor Estate - a Saxon manor listed in the Domesday Book as being given by the conqueror to Nicholas the Crossbowman - is a haven of rural tranquillity, yet lies within convenient striking distance of the North Devon market towns of Bideford and Barnstaple. In the 30 acres of parkland and woods surrounding the Manor House (rebuilt during the Regency period), grazing sheep compete for space with deer, hare, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. Stunning views of Exmoor and Lundy Island (accessible by ferry from Bideford and Ilfracombe) may be enjoyed from the grounds on clear days. Gardeners will delight in the many specimen trees and rhododendrons, and in the stone and brick walled kitchen gardens from which complimentary seasonal produce is made available to guests. In addition, the gardens at RHS Rosemoor, Marwood and Tapley Park are all within easy driving distance.
Four of the properties (HDDN, HDDO, HDDP and HDDQ) were originally constructed using materials from the estate and all have been refurbished to an exceptionally high standard with careful attention being paid to comfort and detail. The Groom’s Cottage which adjoins the Dove Cote House has open-plan accommodation on the ground floor with French doors leading to a secluded walled garden. The Linhay, where carts were once kept and the hay stored for the horses which worked the estate in a bygone age, is a two-bedroomed detached cottage with a bright and airy interior which oozes charm. Both bedrooms enjoy westerly views over the Bristol Channel towards Lundy. The Appleloft, which once housed the estate’s cider press is a delightful spacious, two-bedroomed cottage with a gallery and vaulted ceiling, adjoining the Groom’s Cottage.
Chapel Cottage (H81), the fifth property, adjoins the Manor House (occupied by the owners) and is a conversion of what was once the family place of worship, whilst the sixth, The Coach House (HPPR and HPPS), has been reconstructed in the Regency style and has wonderful views towards Exmoor in the distance. It has been divided into two stunning wings, Cutcliffe Chambers and Luppincott Chambers. Each is sited either side of an internal light tower and can be booked separately or, for a larger party, taken together. The Garden Cottage is a spacious retreat for two, and as it adjoins The Coach House it can also be booked as an annexe to this property to create a five bedroom cottage accommodating ten.
Webbery is ideal for family gatherings, celebrating a birthday or anniversary or for those who just want to escape and unwind on holiday in a truly magical place. The locality offers a hugely varied range of walks in woodland, along coastal and esturine trails and for the more energetic, The Tarka Trail is located only a few minutes away and provides extensive (and largely level) cycling with wonderful estuary views. Weeke Barton Ref: KAAP


Already 500 years since the first stone was laid, Weeke Barton is a detached holiday property, close to the owner’s home, set in a peaceful location on Dartmoor. There are two wonderful wood-burning stoves set in inglenook fireplaces, as well as plenty of charm and original features throughout the whole house, including two stone, spiral staircases. All rooms have natural stone en-suite bathrooms, the living room has low sofas and cow skins with a roaring fire, and the bar is snug. There is also plenty of space to wander and relax in the wild but kept gardens. Set in the Teign Valley, this is an amazing spot for a number of outdoor activities. There are walks from the doorstep, bike trails, fishing, canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding and golf. There are various tried and tested walking routes ranging between one and five hours long. There is varied terrain in the area, including rivers, moorland, fields, hills, reservoirs, beach and tors. For cycling enthusiasts, Haldon Hill, 20 minutes away, is a great woodland park for off road cycling, and cycle hire is also available. There is also a freestyle park here, good for all ages and levels. Fly-fishing can be found at nearby reservoirs and private lessons can also be arranged. Trout fishing can be found at Tavistock Trout Farm, which has a pond for children to fish in, and Tavistock itself has a great pannier market. There are many golf courses in the National Park, including the glorious Bovey Castle, Teign Valley and Stover. Horse riding on the moor can be easily arranged to suit all capabilities, this is fantastic area to ride in. Dartmoor is 47,000 hectares of open access land, great for climbing, letter boxing or just to stroll across the wonderful moorland to see the ponies. Dawlish Warren, a 25-minute drive, has sand dunes, swimming, moorings and the usual seaside treats, whilst Exmouth, 40 minutes away, has a long sandy beach with many amenities and is popular with kitesurfers and for rock pooling too. Bigbury, 45 minutes, has a stunning beach stretch with a corridor of sand leading to Burgh Island, with its Art Deco hotel and 13th-cenutury pub. If the tide is in, a sea tractor takes visitors over to the island! Sandymouth, also 45 minutes away, has good surfing and a little café serving real coffee (check the tides). There are also many National Trust properties within a short distance from Weeke Barton. Beach 9 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub ½ mile.

Hartland Quay and Lighthouse are well worth a visit and for family fun, the Big Sheep and the Milky Way Adventure Parks are close by. Peakaboo Ref: HMMB

Peakaboo is a large detached house (originally a pair of cottages) situated on Peak Hill, overlooking Sidmouth, with extensive sea and cliff views. It has a steep parking area and its own 2½-acre private woodland behind the property, with cliff top paths all adjoining National Trust land in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are also stunning views of cliffs and the sea from the octagonal deck. Peakaboo is only a 5-minute drive from Sidmouth and all its amenities; it has been decorated and furnished to a high standard and makes an ideal holiday base for touring this fantastic part of Devon. There are many NT properties to visit including Bicton Park, whilst a trip to Crealy Adventure Park (close to Exeter) will be greatly enjoyed by children. For walkers, the coastal path to Branscombe, Beer and Seaton is fantastic and other places of interest include the Donkey Sanctuary near Seaton (5 miles) as well as Seaton Tramway. There are many activities to enjoy such as windsurfing, sailing, walking, bird-watching, golf and tennis, to name but a few.
The historic city of Exeter is 20 miles with its stunning cathedral and many shops. Slightly further afield lies the rugged wilderness and beauty of Dartmoor National Park, where both experienced and novice walkers can enjoy the stunning scenery. Visit all the quaint villages in the area and stop for a cream tea.
Lyme Regis makes an alternative day out and children of all ages will enjoy hunting for fossils in the high cliffs that overlook the town itself. Topsham, Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton are all worth visiting each with independent shops. Shops and pub ¼ mile.

At Croyde and Woolacombe some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country can be found, as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor has lots to offer including Tarr Steps, the village of Withypool and a walk up Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor. A day out into West Somerset is recommended with places such as Porlock Weir, Dunster with its castle (NT) and the seaside town of Minehead, home to the West Somerset Stream Railway. Slowpool is a detached period property which has been extended to provide spacious accommodation for a large family or friends - who want to holiday together or have a special occasion to celebrate. It occupies a very rural setting at the end of a track in a 6-acre wood, 3 miles south of Honiton. The wood is a haven for wildlife with regular sighting of badgers, deer and an abundance of birds. There is a network of footpaths in the woods for guests to use at their leisure. The coast of Sidmouth is a mere 20-minute drive.
This is a superb house with total privacy; it has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard and boasts three wood-burning stoves, together with many original features. For walkers and bird-watchers, this really is the most suitable accommodation. There are so many walks to enjoy from the front door.
Many activities are available in the area including golf, fishing, horse riding and sailing. There are also numerous NT properties - all within a short drive. Exmouth is close by and has lovely 2-mile stretch of beach and was once home to the wives of Nelson and Byron respectively, whilst a bit further on lies the genteel town of Budleigh Salterton with its white-washed and thatched cottages which attracted such visitors as Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse. At Exeter, the South West Coastal Path Park is an ideal family day out. Exmoor National Park is also worth a visit, with its rugged landscape and ponies. Shops and pubs 3 miles.
