With its historic church, thatched cottages and traditional old inns, the village of Chulmleigh in North Devon is almost a throwback to days gone by. Time really does seem to stand still here.

Despite being only 20 miles from the city of Exeter, Chulmleigh is located on a remote hilltop in the midst of the beautiful Devon countryside. The overall atmosphere here is one of peace and tranquillity.

The village's location, midway between Exmoor and Dartmoor, means that there are plenty of opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers to take in the country air. The Chulmleigh Golf Course is one of the finest short courses in the area, while for those who enjoy less strenuous pursuits; fishing is a popular activity here. For a day out with a difference, try the nearby Quince Honey Farm, which is the largest of its type in the country. Here you can observe the fascinating behaviour of honey bees as they go about their work.

This Grade II listed, semi-detached former post office has many original features from its period, with Gothic influences and now has all of the conveniences for contemporary living. The Old Post Office was originally an estate workers cottage from the mid 1800s, that then became the village post office. Located in the quiet village of Down St Mary in the heart of Devon, the cottage has plenty of living space and a lovely outside area which overlooks the local churchyard and the countryside beyond. From the village, there are plenty of walks into the surrounding countryside to be enjoyed, including the Two Moors Way, and the cottage is ideally located for visiting all of the delights that Devon has to offer. A railway station can be found 1 mile away (on the Tarka Line) with frequent services to Exeter and Barnstaple. Exeter is easily reached and has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and, of course, its historic cathedral. Both the north and the south coasts can be visited from here, and they both offer very different characteristics. Both Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are accessible and provide walking for all abilities, as well as the stunning scenery. There are a number of National Trust properties in the area, most notably, Castle Drogo and Arlington Court.
