Find cottages in BuckfastleighVisit Buckfastleigh

The South Devon town of Buckfastleigh on the edge of Dartmoor National Park has a vibrant atmosphere and is dominated by the mediaeval Buckfastleigh Abbey.

The town has easy access to stunning, quiet heather moorland, rugged landscapes and hidden valleys; the very best of upland Devon's iconic countryside. Its history stretches back to King Canute when he commissioned the building of the Benedictine Abbey in 1018, and now also renowned for its Tonic Wine.

In addition to the historic buildings there are plenty of activities, places of interest and attractions in this area. For example you can board the South Devon Steam Railway which huffs and puffs its way between Buckfastleigh and Totnes; a great treat for children and adults alike. Also close by is Pennywell Farm and Animal Centre.

Given its location this area is perfect for many outdoor activities including first class walking routes and cycling trails, canoeing and climbing.

If you are eating out try Riverford Field Kitchen; it's better than it sounds, where locally grown (in their own fields) fresh produce is served up in a communal kitchen setting – something a bit different but worth a try.

To sample a self-catering cottage break in this lovely area see our selection of holiday cottages in Buckfastleigh.
