This lovely ground floor accommodation is in the pretty village of Baslow and has the benefit of being 2-3 minutes walk to the famous Chatsworth Park.  The property is attached to a working pottery and has a beautiful partially enclosed garden looking onto the surrounding countryside.  The village of Baslow is a great base for exploring and has many good eating places.  Bakewell is only 5 miles away and two of England’s oldest and most romantic houses, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, are only a few miles drive.  The Hope Valley, a 20 minute drive, has the caves of Castleton and the dramatic Winnats Pass.  Nearby Edale has outstanding views and many walks and cycle routes.

It is 1 mile from Whaley Bridge where you can stroll along the tow path to the Buxworth Basin or take a narrow boat trip. Whaley Bridge also has a train station to help explore if you want to leave the car behind. You could spend a day in Manchester and take in a show for the evening. 12 miles away is the famous spa town of Buxton which also boasts an opera house and Pavilion Gardens. Book a day in the Dome Spa to relax or travel a little further and visit Chatsworth House and its amazing gardens and estate. Medieval Haddon Hall and the old market town of Bakewell is a must and you can travel through Winnets Pass to the charming village of Castleton with its famous caves where the Blue John stone is mined. Take a tour by boat through these caves and learn about the history of the people and how they mined them. Matlock Bath and Alton Towers make great days out for families. Shops 11/2 mile, pub 500 yards.

Matlock is 10 minutes away with supermarket, bus and rail, and a steam train up the Derwent Valley. The lively town of Matlock Bath, approximately 2½ miles by car or walk through woodland, has a mining museum, Abraham Cable Cars and Gullivers Kingdom. All the scenic delights of the Peak District are a short drive including Carsington Water, High Peak Trail, Dovedale and the Manifold Valley. The market towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Ashbourne are all within a half hour drive along with Chatsworth House, Haddon Halla and the Crich Tramway Village all a similar drive. These two delightful holiday cottages enjoy a charming position on the slopes of the Derwent Valley, with lovely views. Restored and refurbished to high standards, they enjoy shared use of an indoor heated swimming pool and unlimited, free use of a small golf course, set in 8 acres (plays 9 holes) by prior arrangement. Bakewell is just 4 miles away, an attractive market town with a choice of shops, inns and restaurants. Providing a point of interest for visitors, The Old House Museum displays a selection of rustic tools and costumes from Bakewell’s past, whilst for walkers, the Monsal Trail proves rewarding - spanning about eight miles and passing through some wonderful limestone valleys as it wends its way north to Wyedale. There are many fine country houses and interesting National Trust properties nearby, including Chatsworth House (Chatsworth Park is within walking distance). Built by the first Duke of Devonshire in the 17th century, it is set within vast grounds, landscaped by Capability Brown, and boasts the magnificent Emperor Fountain. Haddon Hall, 2 miles south of Bakewell, stands on the banks of the River Wye, and whilst not as grand as Chatsworth, stands as a fine example of a medieval manor house. The NT also owns several proeprties in the area, which make for worthwhile visits - including Sudbury Hall at Ashbourne (a late 17th-century house with sumptuous interiors, housing the Museum of Childhood within the service wing), and Hardwick Hall and Stainsby Mill, at Doe Lea, Chesterfield. Ilam Park (running along the River Manifold, with spectacular views towards Dovedale), and High Peak Estate (a vast area of outstanding walking country) also come under NT ownership and provide wonderful walking opportunities. For watersports enthusiasts, Carsington Water is within easy reach, with sailing, wind-surfing and canoeing all available. Matlock 6 miles, with swimming, cycle hire and golf. Shops ½ mile.

Approached by a winding track up the hill, the views from the property are across the green valley. There are footpaths and bridleways from the door up onto Chinley Churn and across to Kinder Scout, ideal for walkers and mountain bikers. Easier routes are available along the nearby Sett Valley Trail.

Hayfield village, with its rows of gritstone cottages, shops and pubs is now reknowned as the setting for the TV drama ‘The Village’. To the north Glossop is an historic thriving market town with a wide range of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, from where the Snake Pass winds over moorland to the lovely Derwent resevoirs. To the south Buxton’s opera house, gardens and festivals are popular with visitors, especially in the summer.
