A stay at Beech View could be the closest you get to heaven on earth, this luxury accommodation is next door to the renowned handmade chocolate shop in Orton, with a pub across the road serving real ale and home cooked locally sourced fare. A pre holiday diet may be a good idea! Beech View is steeped in history, dating back to the 1700’s with a monastic past, unusual arched doorways giving rise to this. The accommodation is laid out over three floors and initially required a great deal of ingenuity from the owners when restoring it. Internally it has the ’wow’ factor, the open plan living area is on the top floor, a fabulous room with heavy ’A’ frame timber beams, wood burning stove and distinct split level kitchen/dining and living areas. The front door enters at ground level on the ground floor and the rear door enters at ground level on the lower ground floor, directly into a bedroom. Orton is a pretty village with village store and children’s play area, in the tranquil Eden Valley. It is central for exploring the Eastern Lakes, the Pennine Hills and the Yorkshire Dales.

Within 4/5 miles you have the nearby villages of Hawkshead (perhaps visit via a great walk through the forest) and Coniston which are also fine examples of Lakeland villages, both with a good deal of attractions for all the family, from Beatrix Potters home to the Ruskin Museum. Winnowing Barn, a former bank barn, sits at the edge of the village, in a small quiet courtyard, and is arranged over three floors. The owners have refurbished the property to a high standard and have ensured that modern fittings (including the addition of wireless broadband) combine well with the traditional features creating a warm, homely feel throughout. Fine views can be enjoyed from the lounge and front bedrooms, and the enclosed rear patio is sure to be put to good use on many occasions.
