Find cottages in CumbriaVisit Cumbria

Cumbria is one of Britain's most loved and visited holiday locations, providing a unique combination of dramatic mountains and awesome lakes. It's a place that attracts visitors all year round and appeals to a wide variety of holidaymakers from couples who want to stay in a cosy Lakeland cottage to families who are looking for country homes with a view.

Cumbria has a great blend and variety of contrasting landscapes, including the renowned Lake District National Park which includes all the iconic places synonymous with the Lake District such as Windermere, Keswick and Ambleside as well as famous lakes such as Lake Windermere, Derwentwater and Coniston.

The mountains and fells here are spectacular and include iconic peaks such as Blencathra, Skiddaw, Grisdale Pike and the largest mountain in England Scarfell Pike. The county extends well beyond The National Park offering great cottage holiday destinations like the tranquil Eden Valley in the east and the rugged uplands to the north around Hadrian's Wall or the Western Lakes and Coast on the west and the Cartmel Peninsula in the south.

Because of its quite compact geography it's easy to get around the Lake District and despite of its popularity it's still possible to escape fellow holidaymakers to admire the wide open spaces and spectacular views with the feeling that you're the only one there, apart from the sheep!

The great outdoors is of course one of the main reasons people visit; this is wonderful walking and cycling country as well as providing lots of opportunities to sample the watersports on the numerous lakes.

Families will find no shortage of top quality visitor attractions, those interested in National Trust properties and gardens will also not be disappointed. The region is packed with picturesque Lakeland villages to discover, specialist shops, cosy pubs and restaurants.

Those thinking about taking a cottage holiday in Cumbria are sure to find something suitable, whether it's in the 'hot spots' of the central and southern lakes or the more remote and rugged areas of the northern lakes, or maybe the less well known regions to the west and east of the county.

So whether you're looking for lots of activities and attractions or a quiet 'away from it all' break this region will suit.

Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Cumbria to find your perfect retreat.

The Coach House Ref: E4998

The mantra of Seaville Farm Barn is ‘just bring yourself’ for here, in the sympathetically converted barns of a Grade II listed farmhouse, less than ten minutes’ drive to sandy beaches, every effort has been made to provide the perfect getaway. To preserve the façade of this interesting building, all the accommodation is individually designed, featuring exposed stonework and high beams. Relax, unwind and enjoy this peaceful location which is full of the sounds of birdsong and has walks from the farm leading to the SSSI wildlife sites of Border and Skinburness Marshes and on to coastal paths. Whilst the working farm setting is home to hens, ducks, Jersey cows and a donkey called Mollie, there is plenty of space to enjoy kicking around with a ball or to pedal a toy tractor. And ‘foodies’ will love the home made fare served at the farm’s tea rooms, where fresh eggs and Jersey milk can also be purchased. This northwest corner of Cumbria sees the majestic fells of the Lake District give way to the undulating coastal plain of the Solway Firth. Across the tidal sea estuary, the mountains of Scotland stand proud – on a clear day the skyline is filled with high peaks. All around Seaville Farm Barn lies rich farmland, which after a mile or two runs west to the long sandy beaches of Silloth and Allonby or North to the special nature site of Morecambe Bay and the ‘sinking sands’ of Burgh-by-Sands. Eastwards, the River Eden affords lovely walks along its meandering valley and around Talkin Tarn near picturesque Brampton. Hadrian’s Wall is just 10 miles away and the border city of Carlisle is about half an hour’s drive as is Bassenthwaite Lake with its osprey viewpoint. The opposite shore of Scotland, taking in a visit to Gretna Green on the way, can be explored in a day trip. Golf, riding and sea fishing are nearby; the charming Victorian town of Silloth (4 miles) has a good selection of shops and pubs. E4999 (The Millers Cottage), E5000 (The Hayloft) and E5040 (Swallows Nest) can be booked together to sleep up to 12 people. From mid November to mid February, a dining/family room is available seating up to 30 people with a wood burning stove and sitting area (£100pw, £20 per day, on request).

All on ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. Shower room with toilet.
