Blessed with a private garden, awash with colour in the summer months, Merlewood enjoys fine fell views and is just a short, level stroll from the centre of this popular village. The house also provides excellent off road parking for up to three cars, a distinct advantage for those of you who are familiar with Ambleside. Light and spacious, the accommodation is perfect for the smaller party and is well set up for a self catering stay, whatever time of year you chose to visit.

A four oven gas Aga beneath oak beams rescued from an old chemist shop, and slate recycled from Grasmere bus station - is perfect for drying out a soggy kit! A library of books, maps, family games and films for little ones make this a wonderful place. The house is stylishly decorated with handmade wide white shutters. Oil paintings, teardrop chandeliers, Minton tiled floor, rugs and throws on comfy sofas fuse old and new in a tasteful way. Linen curtains over French doors lead from the ’grown ups’ dining room with woodburner to a walled gravelled courtyard - perfect for those balmy summer evenings, whilst the little pocket garden is lovely for a quiet moment. This is a wonderful base for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits – less than a mile away, main roads give access to the myriad attractions and stunning landscapes of the Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales and County Durham, and the shops, pubs and restaurants of Brough are also only 1 mile. The larger town of Kirkby Stephen, 5 miles, has a supermarket and variety of gift shops, cafes, tourist information office, library and station for the Carlisle/Settle railway.
