Nestled in the hillside, this magnificent building has the most spectacular views across the valley towards the mighty Skiddaw range, from its elevated location on the edge of Thornthwaite village.   Ladstock Hall was a very grand country house hotel, a renowned venue for weddings, it has now been converted into several apartments and cottages, the standard of which is excellent.  No.5 is a split level apartment furnished and equipped throughout to appeal to the most discerning guests. Thornthwaite lies three miles to the West of Keswick at the foot of Whinlatter and close to Bassenthwaite lake. This area is great for mountain biking in Whinlatter forest, walking on the surrounding fells and sailing or fishing on the lake. There is a bridle way immediately behind Ladstock Hall where you can walk to Braithwaite, a little over half a mile, which has a village shop, restaurant and two pubs each serving good food and real ale.

Overbeck Cottage is a four star, quality self catering cottage offering great character and charm for two occupants, the perfect choice for a romantic break at any time of the year. The cottage offers mesmerising views of the riverbank from all rooms, across the lush green garden areas and beyond to Loughrigg Fell, very tempting to the walkers among you! Overbeck Cottage has a outdoor patio overlooking the river and a spacious car park just across the private foot bridge from the property.

The property is within a few metres of the River Rothay (which flows through the garden) where fishing is available:

Type of fishing: limited fly fishing. Locals tend to use worm or spinner.

Type of fish: The river holds brown trout. Very occasional late season salmon and sea trout turn up. Chub and roach are possible but unlikely.

Licence: An Environmental Agency rod licence is required. These are available online a href="http://www.postoffice.co.uk/rod-fishing-licence#prices" pathattribute="1" here/a. The stretch of water is outside of WADAA control hence no additional licence is required.

Built in 1861, the main house fell into decline after the Second World War, but has now happily been restored to its former glory by the present owners, to provide a splendid large hall, along with two spacious and extremely comfortable holiday properties adjoining the main house, and, further up the drive, the large and elegant detached Coach House. Within close proximity of The Coach House, in an attractive sheltered area, is the shared outdoor heated swimming pool and an adjacent gym. With very good access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Morland Hall Estate makes for an excellent holiday destination.
Just 8 miles away lies the attractive market town of Appleby, once the county town of Westmorland, and renowned for its famous Horse Fair held in June of each year since 1750. Passing through the town, the Settle to Carlisle railway offers visitors the chance to relax and enjoy wonderful scenery as it runs over the famous 24-arched Ribblehead Viaduct before descending two hundred feet in five miles. Slightly further to the north of Appleby, the traditional, bustling market town of Penrith, gateway to Ullswater, can be found. The house also provides excellent off road parking for up to three cars, a distinct advantage for those of you who are familiar with Ambleside.
