Situated a short distance to the east is the pretty village of Staveley, positioned between the River Kent and Gowan; and handily placed for both the Lakes hot spots and the beautiful Kent Valley.

Bannerrigg (’sister property’ to Alice Howe and Boston House) a Grade II listed property, was designed by Augustus (AWN) Pugin (1812 - 1852), arguably the greatest British architect, designer and writer of the 19th Century whose name is synonymous with the interior of The House of Lords and the Palace of Westminster.  The houses on the terrace were designed as holiday homes for the railway executives each one having unique character.
The historic nature of this spacious property is reflected in the style and quality of the decor, furnishings and accessories.  If you are looking for a big house in the Lake District for a family holiday or short break with a group of friends, Bannerrigg is the ideal choice.
During the 2008 winter period Bannerrigg has had quite a makeover, which has resulted in the house being uprated by Visit Britian from 3 to 4 star status. Bedroom one has been redecorated and had a new ensuite installed. The family bathroom has had new natural stone flooring and most of the property has been decorated. Many of the fixtures and fittings have also been changed. Every bedroom also now has an ipod dock/radio alarm clock.
Outside there’s a new large slate patio. An 8 seat hot tub has been installed in it’s own building in the garden and the parking area has been extended to fit 5 cars ( in fact if you are prepared to park each other in, there’s room for 7 cars).
Bannerrigg has 5 bedrooms, one being a family room with two daybeds and a double, another large room has 4 single beds.  The house is an ideal base for the larger party and with the train and bus station literally around the corner, it’s easily accessible for those members of your group that are travelling from far and wide.

A four oven gas Aga beneath oak beams rescued from an old chemist shop, and slate recycled from Grasmere bus station - is perfect for drying out a soggy kit! A library of books, maps, family games and films for little ones make this a wonderful place. The house is stylishly decorated with handmade wide white shutters. Oil paintings, teardrop chandeliers, Minton tiled floor, rugs and throws on comfy sofas fuse old and new in a tasteful way. Linen curtains over French doors lead from the ’grown ups’ dining room with woodburner to a walled gravelled courtyard - perfect for those balmy summer evenings, whilst the little pocket garden is lovely for a quiet moment. There’s even a Christmas box full of decorations for a festive stay- including Christmas tree if needed. Corner Cottage is set in an ideal position on the north edge of Windermere village. Enjoy being close to all the village amenities. It is also well placed for Bowness and Ambleside and access to the shores of Lake Windermere is only a short distance away. The longest lake in England, Lake Windermere enjoys a dramatic backdrop of wooded slopes and bare fells. Visit the 18th-century dome shaped villa on Belle Isle, the largest of the fourteen islands, which can be reached by ferry. Cooks House is a truly outstanding holiday home, offering unique and high quality accommodation. A detached period style property, dating back to the 17th Century, Cooks House is a most charming building both inside and out with numerous eye catching original features to include exposed stone walls and original oak beams. The house sits below the parking area and the walk down the narrow steps conjures up childhood memories of The Secret Garden and Hansel and Gretel as you wonder along through the pretty flower beds and mature trees and gaze upon the hidden cottage.
Inside the theme is very much based on quality. The owners have used John Lewis and Laura Ashley to furnish their home and have created and eclectic mix of traditional cottage style with a little European and contemporary influence. The results are splendid and ensure that holiday memories at Cook’s House will remain with our guests for many years to come.

Esthwaite takes its name from the freshwater Lake near Hawkshead, famous for its trout fishing, one of a host of Lakeland waters available to holiday makers who enjoy the traditional sport, Esthwaite, the cottage, however, is in Windermere, tucked behind the main thoroughfare only a short stroll to a wide range of amenities in both this village and neighbouring Bowness.
A modern take on a traditional stone built cottage, Esthwaite is an end terrace, built on three floors and is comfortably furnished in a fairly contemporary style. The two bathrooms with bath or shower are sure to be put to good use after a days walking on the fells followed perhaps by a drink outside in the small seating area.

There are many footpaths and bridleways close by leading to Brunt Knott, Craggy Wood, Reston Scarr and Kentmere Horseshoe. Other activities include sailing, fishing and cycling, visit the Beatrix Potter museum or take a short drive to the centre of the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales. The village offers shops, restaurants, pubs, bakery and cycle hire. Trains to Windermere and Kendal. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¾ miles.
