At the heart of the National Park, Windermere has a vibrant atmosphere close to England's largest lake and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

The small town of Windermere is positioned beside the banks of (lake) Windermere and along with its neighbouring town of Bowness-on-Windermere form two of the most popular holiday destinations in the Lake District.

Its central position makes it the perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Lake District National Park and offers easy access to the water where you can take one of the famous steamers or launches that regularly depart and arrive throughout the day; it's a great way to fully appreciate the majesty of the area with stunning views of the mountainous landscape all around.

In town there is a bustling atmosphere where you'll find a good selection of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and cosy pubs. There also plenty of excellent visitor attractions close by such as the Lakeland Motor Museum, Lake District Visitor Centre or Wray Castle, or why not visit the Steamboat Museum itself and learn about the fascinating history of these iconic craft.

Young and old alike will enjoy a visit to the World of Beatrix Potter where her famous animal characters and all of her stories are brought to life; cross the lake to visit Hill Top, the author's own home, now lovingly restored as in tribute to her life and work.

Situated a short distance to the east is the pretty village of Staveley, positioned between the River Kent and Gowan; and handily placed for both the Lakes hot spots and the beautiful Kent Valley.

Wansfell Lodge resides on the spectacularly situated Limefitt Park, in one of the Lake District’s most beautiful valleys. The valley sides climb steeply to the surrounding peaks, such as High Street and Froswick providing breathtaking scenery. The Lodge is situated in a tranquil location with direct access on to the Lakeland Fells with an abundance of walks and wildlife and although it is only 3 miles from Windermere it retains the feeling of remoteness. On site facilities include  a small supremarket, the Haybarn Inn (open April - October), a traditional Lakeland pub serving meals, including breakfast, and a selection of fine ales and a beer garden.  There is also a games room, adventure playground and  launderette on site. Internet access is avaialble both in the lodge and throughout the site.
Nearby leisure activities include pony trekking, cycle hire, golf, fishing and a host of water sports. A truly wonderful location from which to enjoy a fabulous activity packed holiday.

Ground Floor: The luxury accommodation has gas central heating and comprises:
Living area: Open plan with colour TV, DVD, CD/radio, electric fire, dining table and chairs and doors to the balcony.
Kitchen area: With electric oven and gas hob, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer and microwave.

White Cross Bay Leisure Park has been awarded a four star award by Visit England along with the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation, so guests can be assured not only of a high standard of accommodation but also of a location doing its utmost to protect the local environment. Set mid way between Ambleside and Windermere, the park is situated in the very heart of the Lake District within 60 acres of wooded parklands, which run right down to the shores of Lake Windermere. White Cross Bay has an indoor heated swimming pool, with sauna, solarium and gym, all payable on site, as well as a modern clubhouse bar and restaurant with regular daytime and evening entertainment. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the site, details available at reception. Launching is also available should you have your own boat, with prior arrangement.
Calgarth Lodge enjoys a peaceful, wooded location on the site, a short walk from the Lake shore and the excellent facilities that White Cross Bay has to offer.
