Old Farm Cottage is situated in the charming hamlet of Ablington, just 1 mile from the famous village of Bibury. The property, one of a pair, boasts a wonderful garden which is designed to have three ‘rooms’. The front garden has two lawned areas and lots of shrubs and perennials, and on the wall, are two pear trees that fruit well in most years. In the garden at the back of the house, the pergola supports vines and lots of other shrubs, and there are herb pots and sage which guests can pop out of the kitchen to collect. The clematis over the gateway makes the rear garden almost secret. In that garden there is the raspberry patch, with two quince trees and an apple tree. Bibury is known for its honey-coloured, 17-century stone cottages with steeply pitched roofs. Almost at the centre of Bibury, lies the picturesque Arlington Row cottages which were built in 1380 as a monastic wool store. These were converted in the 17th century into dwellings for weavers who supplied cloth for fulling (degreasing) at nearby Arlington Mill. The River Coln, a tributary of the River Thames, flows alongside the main village street. Its water, along with the Bibury Spring, supplies Bibury Trout Farm, founded in 1902 by the famous naturalist Arthur Severn, to stock the local rivers and streams with the native brown trout. There is a 15-century pub, with exposed, original ship’s timber beams and blazing log fires, which serves food in the bar and in its separate restaurant area. The trout farm shop nearby, a 3-minute walk, sells newspaper, milk, bread and other essential things such as wine, sausages, bacon, trout, biscuits etc. There are many other attractions nearby such as Burford, 9 miles, known as the gateway to the Cotswolds, whose church still retains markings from the English Civil War. Cirencester, just 6 miles away, used to be one of the largest Roman cities. Bath, about 40 miles away, is famed for its Roman connections and Georgian streets. Westonbirt, the internationally renowned tree collection and heritage landscape, is also worth visiting. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Living room with wood-burning stove and tiled floor. Well-equipped kitchen/dining room with gas range (for cooking), doors to garden and tiled floor. Shower room with toilet. Steep stairs to first floor: Two double bedrooms, one with 5ft bed. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.
