Set deep in the beautiful Cornish countryside, Trecowthick is a real escape from the crowds, whilst being less than 3 miles to some of the county’s best beaches - most notably Crantock, Holywell Bay and the AONB of the Gannel estuary in Newquay. Trescowthick Barn (ref 26212) is a Grade II listed detached barn conversion, whilst Trescowthick Stables (ref 30497) is an attractive holiday home, all on one level, and was once the stables to Trescowthick Barn, which is located next door. The area is full of tourist attractions, both man made and natural. Amongst the best are Creally Adventure Park, Lapps Valley Steam Railway, Dairyland, Newquay Zoo, Trerice House and Gardens (NT), through to the beautiful beaches of Newquay (of which there are over 8), the dunes at Holywell Bay and Perranporth and the tranquil Gannel Estuary. The Gannel is a firm favourite with birdwatchers, kayakers and windsurfers and a perfect place for a walk with the dogs and a picnic. Horse riding, deep sea fishing trips, kayaking sight seeing trips are all available in and around Newquay. Polmarkyn is a rural small holding property located on the A38 at Trerulefoot. The main house (ref 28916) is a substantial home of superb proportions, the holiday home forming one half of the main farmhouse with the owners living next door. The house dates back to 1816, and was once a ‘longhouse’ with people and animals all living together. It now has spacious and well-furnished rooms and would make a excellent base for a larger family who are wanting a central point from which to explore Cornwall. Just across the rear garden of the main house is a pretty little rustic holiday cottage(ref 28917), converted from a stone barn, once used as a forge or stable. It sits next to the old dove cote and has a quaint rustic charm; it is ideal for a couple and has vaulted ceilings, beams and a woodburner. Visitors with dogs are most welcome here, and to the rear of the farmhouse there is a small orchard with stables available and a 5-acre field ideal for exercising your dog. The owners at Polmarkyn have a smallholding and keep chickens, rabbits and goats, and have an outside aviary with budgies. Polmarkyn is positioned in an ideal location, midway between Saltash and Liskeard, and just 6 miles from the beaches of Seaton and Downderry, where dogs are allowed in the summer. In the heart of Daphne du Maurier country, both the adjoining VisitEngland Gold Award-winning Prideaux Farmhouse (ref TMO) and Prideaux Cottage (ref TMP), together with the beautifully converted, detached single-storey Wagon House (ref TPE) are located on the Prideaux Estate which sits at the top of the Luxulyan Valley with far reaching and rambling views across the valley and woodlands. A 15-minute drive will take you to the spectacular South Cornwall Coastline and the famous fishing town of Looe. Just along the coast from Looe, nestles the tiny fishing village of Polperro with its harbour and narrow streets. There is a network of footpaths which pass through some of the most scenic countryside in the district, one of which leads directly from the village. The city of Plymouth is just 18 miles and is home to the award winning National Marine Aquarium. Our mild winters ensure that many plants are able to thrive in Cornwall and with this, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are both within 25 miles. There are many historic houses to visit close by including Cotehele, Lanhydrock and Antony. Golf courses within 20 miles include the ’course that Jack built’ at St Mellion, Looe Bindown and Lanhydrock. Liskeard sports a leisure centre with swimming pool, squash, indoor bowling, badminton and fitness suite. From here you can take the lovely branch line which runs down to Looe through the wooded East Looe Valley. Nearby Siblyback Lake offers windsurfing, dinghy sailing, canoeing and fishing. Mount Edgcumbe Park with its 800 acres of parkland located on the Tamar estuary is also well worth a visit.
