The small and picturesque fishing village of Port Issac has a population of just around 700, but is hugely popular with holidaymakers who come to stay in this beautiful coastal region.

Port Isaac can be found on the Atlantic coast of north Cornwall near the town of Wadebridge. The original breakwater and Tudor pier of Port Isaac were built during the reign of Henry VIII, but these have now been replaced by a more modern sea wall, allowing local fishermen to sleep soundly at night.

The village's prosperity was linked to fishing and coastal freight and the central part of the village was built during the 18th and 19th centuries, when it was at its most prosperous. The core of the village has been protected as a conservation area since 1971.

Port Isaac has been used as a popular film location by television companies over the past 40 years. It is currently home to the ITV series, Doc Martin, starring Martin Clunes. The BBC's Poldark was filmed at Port Isaac between 1975 and 1977. The DIY SOS team have decorated the village hall, with the programme being televised afterwards.

The lifeboat station in Port Isaac was established in 1869, and in 2012 the whole lifeboat crew were awarded gallantry medals for a particularly dangerous rescue. In the history of the RNLI it is only the second time a whole crew has been awarded gallantry medals for a rescue on a D-class inflatable lifeboat.

The area around Port Isaac is designated as being an AONB. Two footpaths lead to the Heritage coast path from the farm. The sandy beaches of Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Rock are within a few minutes’ drive, with a ferry from Rock to Padstow, where bikes may be hired for a ride along the Camel Trail to the market town of Wadebridge which is 9 miles by road.
Visit the picturesque village of Tintagel which is steeped in history about its legendary castle, said to have belonged to King Arthur, with Merlin’s caves in the coves below. The quaint fishing village of Boscastle with its picturesque harbour and Bodmin Moor is easily accessible.
The area offers excellent golf courses, horseriding fishing and watersports. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Set just a short stroll down the hill to the harbour at Port Isaac, made famous by the TV series ’Doc Martin’ where a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants can be found. Also within easy reach are the coastal villages of Boscastle and Tintagel, the mythical home of King Arthur.
A short drive away is Padstow with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants including Rick Stein’s famous fish restaurant. From here, cycle (bike hire available locally) or walk along the Camel Trail, a disused railway line which follows the Camel Estuary, to Wadebridge and beyond to Bodmin. Alternatively, take a ferry across to Rock to sample the many water sports on offer.
Down the coast is Watergate Bay, the home of kite surfing and also Jamie Oliver’s ’Fifteen’ restaurant, and Newquay with its zoo, Blue Reef Aquarium and a number of sandy, family friendly beaches including the famous Fistral surfing beach.
