Find cottages in MevagisseyVisit Mevagissey

Mevagissey is a picturesque, Cornish fishing village where you can explore the narrow streets and discover quirky shops and art galleries.

Mevagissey is situated on the south Cornish coast a short distance from St Austell, and the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan is nearby. This unspoilt fishing village has a colourful history of smuggling and boat building and is set amongst the steep hill sides that surround the twin harbours where fishing boats come and go with their catch; the town has many good restaurants, pubs and cafes where you can try the local produce.

Of particular note is the converted lifeboat house on the harbour which has had many uses since the 1930s, including a cafe, shop and gun emplacement manned by the Home Guard during WWII. In the mid-1950s it was turned into an aquarium which provided 50 years of enjoyment before being refurbished and reopened in 2006. To learn more of the town's history, visit the local museum; the exhibits are housed in a building that was constructed in 1745.

There are many beautiful beaches and attractions nearby, including the Mevagissey Model railway museum where more than 30 trains travel through detailed, but imaginary scenes. Spot the harbour with a film set, wedding, maze and snow covered Alpine landscape!

This 18th-century, Grade II listed town house has been lovingly updated to provide beautiful and comfortable holiday accommodation in the heart of the traditional fishing village of Mevagissey on Cornwall’s sub-tropical south coast. Set close to the working harbour that is home to the colourful Mevagissey fishing fleet, local shops, an abundance of restaurants, cafes and pubs all serving local food and local ales, Tregoney House provides the perfect base to enjoy the village and surrounding countryside and coastline.
Mevagissey is historically linked to the beautiful and enchanting Lost Gardens of Heligan, which can be reached by bike and where the Italianate gardens can be admired, the ‘Jungle’ garden can be explored and lunch can be enjoyed in the cafe. Mevagissey is the perfect destination for all types of holiday, whether it is a peaceful break, beach holiday or activity break on this picturesque stretch of Cornwall. Sea fishing, boat trips and a ferry to Fowey leave the harbour during the season.
The beaches of Pentewan, Port Mellon and Gorran Haven are all easily accessible. Port Mellon beach can be reached on foot from Tregoney House and is in a small sheltered cove, perfect for relaxing, exploring or rock pooling. A cycle track at Pentewan provides an alternative route to one of Cornwall’s and the country’s famous tourist attractions, the Eden Project. It joins a network of trails right into the heart of Cornwall’s historic china clay area. Other attractions in the area are Caerhays House and Garden, a vineyard and the Shipwreck and Heritage Centre at nearby Charlestown - home to tall sailing ships and a regular set used for film and TV programmes. Nearby St Austell has supermarkets, bowling, swimming pools and leisure facilities. Shop and pub 40 yards.

Harbourside Apartment is so close to the beautiful harbour that you feel part of the village the moment you arrive in Mevagissey. Perched above the harbour, the sights and sounds of gently bobbing boats, the cry of the gulls and the waves lapping the edge of the harbour can be heard from the balcony that overlooks the open sea beyond. The narrow, tiny lanes are lined with pretty cafes, gift and craft shops and local pubs that serve award winning ales and local food. The sandy beaches and isolated coves dominate the coastline and provide a beautiful natural attraction. Many of the beaches in the immediate vicinity have interesting rock formations, the perfect excuse to go crabbing in the many rock pools. Take the half hour ferry ride across the bay to Fowey with the possibility of spotting wildlife en route, or to fully appreciate the natural splendour of the area there is a virtually traffic free walking and cycling trail leading from Mevagissey to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The cycle trail can also be used to get to the village of Pentewan with its cosy pub and non-working harbour that has been transformed into a sanctuary for wildlife and large sandy beach.
