Find cottages in LostwithielVisit Lostwithiel

Located at the head of the Fowey Estuary in Cornwall, Lostwithiel is a small town between Tavistock and Truro. Despite having a population of less than 3,000, Lostwithiel is an exciting, vibrant place providing the ideal base for exploring Cornwall.

Dating back to the 12th century, Lostwithiel boasts numerous fascinating historical buildings. Boconnoc House is a beautiful stately home with stunning gardens that hosts exciting events throughout the year. It is also open for guided tours on selected dates. English Heritage-owned Restormel Castle stands on a hill with great views over the River Fowey. It is possible to walk around the castle both inside and outside and the best views are from the top of the towers.

It is well worth timing your visit to Lostwithiel to correspond with one of the many events that take place there, such as the carnival week, LostFest, or the cider festival. There is a little beach in the town that is exposed near to the medieval bridge at low tide. It is a great place to sit and have a picnic or sample some of the local fish and chips.

From Lostwithiel there are numerous beautiful walking tracks to explore. There is also a golf club boasting a gym, swimming pool and tennis courts. Not far from the town, there are some well -known tourist attractions such as the world renowned Eden Project and the Treffry Viaduct. It is also a great place to go cycling, of particular note is the Camel Trail, following a disused railway from Padstow to Bodwin.
