A short walk from the NT beauty spot of Mullion Cove and close to adjacent sandy coves, this lovely stone Cornish holiday cottage stands peacefully in a sunny sheltered garden. The garden features a revolving cedar wood summerhouse (an ideal hide for bird-watchers), which is set between a lily pond and stream and there is an octagonal gazebo cum brick barbecue area. A cosy property with full central heating and gas stove. Wrapped up for the night in the summerhouse, sensible older children will be enthralled to watch badgers and foxes spending long hours digging for worms in the grass.
Located on the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion is Cornwall’s biggest village and is situated just a mile from the coast, where Mullion Cove lies with its unusual rock sculptures and small beach. Marking the spot where the first transatlantic radio transmission was made in 1901, the Marconi Monument can be seen at the cliff’s edge. Nearby Kynance Cove (the peninsula’s best known beach) is characterised by impressive cliffs, offshore islands and displays stacks and arches of serpentine rock. With surfers, the beaches at Polurrian and Poldhu prove popular, whilst sandy beaches can be found at Church and Dollar coves. Five miles north of the cottage is the stannary town of Helston, where tin ore was once extracted and sent to the port at Porthleven. Held each May, the well-known Floral Dance is performed here – men in top hats and women in summer dresses taking to the streets to re-enact a somewhat strange dance, which lasts for the greater part of the day. Younger family members will enjoy the theme park also found there, and the network of quiet country lanes connecting the inland villages with those on the coast provide a good way to explore the area, with cycle hire available at Helston. Just over half an hour’s drive away are Truro, Penzance, Falmouth, Redruth and St Ives. Golf, riding and pleasant coastal walks all found locally. Shops 400 yards, pub close by.

Spacious dining hall with rug on parquet floor and gas stove. Living room with rug on parquet floor and picture window overlooking garden. Study/TV room. Large fitted kitchen with breakfast bar and separate dining area. Cloakroom with toilet. Open-tread stairs to first floor: Two twin bedrooms; one with large en-suite shower room (double cubicle), vanity unit and toilet. Double bedroom. Bunk bedroom. With views across open countryside from 2 acres of pretty lawned gardens, Gwedna Barns is set in a secluded, wooded, rural spot, on a non-working farm and situated within a World Heritage site. Gwedna Barns consists of four holiday properties with their own garden areas and seating and the use of a children’s play area. The Long Barn (GLP) brims with character and charm, with a split-level living arrangement and cosy open kitchen with a lofty beamed ceiling. The Stable (TE1) has an open-plan living area which has been designed to take in the full height of the building with an exposed beamed ceiling, a wood-burning stove and French doors leading to its own garden with extensive countryside views. Swallows Barn (TE2) successfully blends contemporary facilities with a classic, Cornish granite facade. The property has its own garden with far-reaching views from the seating area and an open-plan living space with a raised living room and door to the garden. Billy’s Barn (TE3) was formerly the goat house and has exposed stone walls with a comfortable living room and traditional wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. With large doors to the front of the property letting light into the dining room, there is a further kitchen area with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The properties are close to the attractive village of Godolphin Cross in the beautiful Cornish countryside. The nearby Goldolphin House (NT) is steeped in Cornwall’s mining history and is one of the country’s most significant houses. The south west of Cornwall provides some of the best surfing, fishing and coastal walking in England. Gwedna Barns’ peaceful location provides easy access to the area’s beaches and coves. The sweeping sands of Gwithian are a 15-minute drive to the north, whilst Prussia Cove, with its caves, tales of smuggling and crystal clear water, lies 5 miles to the south. Penzance, The Lizard and St Ives are all within a 20-minute drive. The old market town of Helston, with its elegant Georgian town houses, is nearby, and the main A30, just a short drive away, provides access to the whole of west Cornwall. Enjoy the surf culture, attractive countryside, stunning coast scenes, history and art; all to be found in south west Cornwall. Horse riding 3½ miles, golf 4½ miles. Shop/P.O. 1½ miles, pub 1 mile. Note: Properties TE1, TE2 and GLP can be booked together to sleep 16 people. Personalised stocking and complimentary hamper for Christmas and New Year bookings for properties TE1, TE2 and GLP.
