Find cottages in NantwichVisit Nantwich

Nantwich sits on the Cheshire Plain on the banks of the River Weaver; a place rich in history, in fact it has the second largest collection of historic buildings in the country.

As well as the historic houses and many picturesque gardens, the streets of Nantwich are host to bijoux boutiques and contemporary shops alike. If you are a foodie, then you can revel in the large range of restaurants, cafes, gastropubs and farmers markets that Nantwich has to offer.

The attractive south Cheshire town of Nantwich has roots that go back to Roman times, when it provided salt to the nearby Roman garrisons. It is this rich history that has left Nantwich with the second largest collection of historic buildings in the county, with only Chester being home to the largest.

Much of medieval Nantwich was destroyed in a fire in the 1500s, but it was soon rebuilt, leaving the centre of Nantwich a conservation area housing clusters of beautiful listed buildings. The conservation area follows the boundaries of the late medieval town and as well as the post-fire architecture, it is home to three stunning buildings that actually pre-date the fire.

Historical St Mary's Church is nicknamed the 'Cathedral of South Cheshire' and is broadly considered to be not only one of the finest medieval churches in Cheshire, but indeed in the whole of England. The black and white timber framed Sweetbriar Hall and Churches Mansion also pre-date the fire and sit alongside other beautiful examples of Elizabethan architecture that earned Nantwich the accolade as 'the best built town in the county'.

Magnificent architecture, medieval history and marvellous shops and restaurants, as well as a host of regular events, make Nantwich an excellent holiday destination, so search Nantwich Holiday Cottages today.
