Find cottages in BuckinghamshireVisit Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire offers the best of both worlds; a relaxing cottage holiday break set in a rural location that includes both the Chiltern Hills and the Vale of Aylesbury and easy access to central London for days out, big city entertainment and historical landmarks.

But that's not to say you'll have to travel to the bright lights of the capital to find a great way to pass the time on holiday, as Buckinghamshire offers a wealth of charming attractions. So if you are contemplating a holiday in the region here are some ideas for the ultimate holiday cottage break in Buckinghamshire.

Buckinghamshire has a rich and fascinating history, so it almost goes without saying that many of its attractions combine scenic beauty with a fascinating tale. Take Bletchley Park, for example, while it offers a delightful manor house setting amongst acres of grounds, the reason it's such a popular visitor destination is due to the part its code breakers played in World War II deciphering the Enigma code. Visit today and you can learn more about this incredible tale and view some of the restored original equipment.

A visit to Waddesdon Manor is almost essential. Widely considered one of the National Trust's finest properties, this renaissance-style château was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to showcase his impressive collection of treasures, not to mention his wealth!

If you fancy something a little less flamboyant then the Bekonscot Model Village in Beaconsfield is a delight for holidaymakers of all ages. Further fun for the young ones can be found at The Roald Dahl Children's Gallery, where you can find out about some of the author's most beloved creations.

With some of the UK's most beautiful open expanses on your doorstep, Buckinghamshire is perfect for lovers of the outdoors. Whether you choose to explore the region by car, on two wheels or on foot with optional accompaniment from your four-legged friend, you are guaranteed incredible views and an unforgettable experience.

With easy access to London, Buckinghamshire is an equally attractive proposition for those who want to sample the delights of the UK's cosmopolitan capital but would like somewhere tranquil to relax and unwind afterwards. In short, it definitely offers the best of both worlds.

If you're ready to book a break then take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Buckinghamshire today.

Dartmouth House Ref: PDDC

Originally owned by the Earl of Dartmouth and situated in the Georgian market town of Olney, Dartmouth House has records dating back to 1745. A spacious and comfortable, stone-built roadside property with the owners’ home close by, it can sleep up to twelve people. It has retained many of the original features - such as flagstone, wooden and quarry-tiled floors, beamed ceilings and fireplaces. The large, south-facing, stone-walled garden is enclosed, and its beautiful aspects may be enjoyed in all types of weather when dining or relaxing on the large verandah, which is attached to the house.
Olney (situated on the River Great Ouse) is one of the most sought-after destinations in North Buckinghamshire and is within easy driving distance of Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, in an area with beautiful rolling countryside and many country and town attractions. Olney is located in the middle of England and Dartmouth House is handily set along a main road just 20 minutes from junction 14 of the M1 - making London very accessible. Olney itself has tea rooms, antique shops, boutiques and the William Cowper Museum and are all within easy walking distance of the property. A few minutes’ drive leads to Woburn Abbey, Castle Ashby and Bletchley Park. There is plenty to keep children entertained - from Gullivers World and Woburn Safari Park to the popular Whipsnade Zoo. For the more energetic, there are vast areas of outstanding walking and cycling country, including Salcey Forest and Emberton Park. Milton Keynes offers a different experience with its cinemas, excellent shopping, the Milton Keynes Theatre (the most popular theatre outside London) and a huge choice of sporting activites including the Snowdome. Shops 50 yards, pub 20 yards.
