Berkshire provides such a welcoming and relaxing break it's hard to believe that London is only a short hop away. Here you'll find a host of pretty rural villages and towns to explore set amongst lovely rural landscapes. Staying in a holiday cottage provides the ideal base for exploring the region; there's plenty to occupy visitors, with historic buildings, open green spaces and great visitor attractions.

Perhaps one of Berkshire's most famous towns is Windsor; synonymous with its Royal connections and Windsor Castle is the oldest and longest occupied castle in Europe, it offers fantastic architecture, fascinating history and a wonderful visitor experience.

To gain an appreciation of the region's greener pastures you need look no further than Windsor Great Park, comprised of 20 square kilometres of stunning rural parkland, it's the perfect place to lose yourself for a few hours; spot deer, take a stroll or just marvel at the views of Windsor Castle. You could also take in St George's Chapel which is something of a 'must-see' historical building, with stunning architecture inside and out, not to mention a wonderfully enchanting ambience.

Younger holidaymakers (and their fathers) will find a trip to Legoland well worth the visit. Not only are you able to walk amongst some of the world's most iconic constructions made from tiny plastic bricks, but you'll also be able to enjoy rides, games, shows and much more. And if the younger ones need to release some energy Go Ape high wire Adventure Park is at Bracknell.

Race goers will of course know that Ascot is nearby, so why not combine a few days away with a day at the races? Top quality races are held throughout the year and provide for the perfect day out and a bit of glamour and excitement.

Or you could enjoy a leisurely trip down the river Thames, cruise operators can combine a relaxing boat ride with stop overs at some of Berkshire's top visitor attractions such as Mapledurham House and Beale Park.
