Property Description

Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel, Yenworthy Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen. Two traditional barns in the courtyard of the farm have been sympathetically converted to offer a very high standard of accommodation throughout.
Yenworthy is ideal for walkers - a rugged pathway leads from the farm down to a secluded beach and there is direct access to one of the most scenic sections of the South West Coast Path. There are 13 miles of footpaths to explore on the farm itself and it even has its own historic monument - an old Roman Fort at Old Burrow. A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest and rare species of butterflies and trees. The nearest sandy beach is Lee Abbey (5 miles) and there are excellent surfing beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton within easy driving distance. There are three pubs with restaurants within 3 miles and plenty of shops in Lynton and Lynmouth
(4 miles), Polock (7 miles), Minehead (13 miles) and Barnstaple (21 miles), which also has a popular covered market. River fishing and grazing for horses are available by arrangement. Shops 4 miles.

Spacious beamed living/dining room with well-equipped kitchen area, wood-burning stove, wooden floor and door to garden. Stairs to galleried sitting room with TV. Short flight of stairs to double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite shower room and toilet. Twin bedroom. Separate toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with 5ft bed, additional bunk beds (for +2) and Velux windows. Twin bedroom with Velux windows. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Beautiful property in a stunning location. Spacious and accommodated 3 generations of family & 4 dogs with ease! June 2012.
  2. Magnificent location. May be too rural for some but perfect for getting away, excellent dog walking and lovely little towns 15-20 mins away. Property decor all very new and clean. Very cosy. Have to bear in mind that the farm house is in the same location so you may get woken by the farm dogs and farmer in the morning but it was worth it. Would love to go back ANY TIME. Just heavenly if you like nature, getting away, magnificent scenery but creature comforts. Oct 2011.
  3. A well presented property, with many fine walks (although challenging). Fairly isolated so be prepared to be fairly self sufficient. The caretakers were excellent, handling a couple of minor problems promptly and efficiently. Sept 2011.
  4. The cottage was beautiful, very clean and well equipped and a fabulous location. we were very lucky with the weather so we were outside most of the time. We had a wonderful family weekend there, it is isolated so perfect for getting away from it all. Thank you. Sept 2011.
  5. Glorious setting: what could be better than to have an early morning cup of tea within sight of the sea, watching the swallows - and all in glorious sunshine! April 2011.
  6. Spacious property in a beautiful location very close to the sea. Ideal for ramblers and large groups. March 2011.
  7. For us (being a family of 8) the lay out was terrific, loads of space but at the same time all being together. Nov 2010.
  8. Well suited for a get-away break. Sept 2010.
  9. A lovely property and a glorious location. Aug 2010.
  10. Well renovated. July 2010.
  11. Very clean - nice to see everything matched. May 2010.
  12. Beautiful, clean, with all essentials provided including towels, tea and a couple of dishwasher tablets. Only negative comment I have is the mattress in the ground floor bedroom was very very firm - felt like an orthopedic mattress. Sept 2009.
  13. Very well-equipped kitchen, which made catering for 7 quite easy - lovely to have a dishwasher! May 2009.
  14. Stunning location, clean and well furnished. On site support from managers was fantastic. We took 3 dogs, 2 horses and 4 children and felt we had the freedom of the farm, where the children were safe and the animals ecstatic! Aug 2009.
  15. The mill has a high standard of decor and furniture making our stay feel very luxurious. Aug 2009.
  16. Unobtrusive hosts - made us feel very welcome. A very relaxing and peaceful holiday. April 2009.
  17. Perfect accommodation in a perfect position. July 2008.
  18. It was a lovely place for socialising, with the split level/ annexed sitting room and was a really good size for the number of people it could hold. We were also incredibly lucky with the weather, so loved the outdoor space. Sept 2008.
  19. We all had wonderful weekend break. Nobody had any negative comments about the accommodation, location or service. Sept 2008.
  20. Yenworthy Mill has been beautifully converted to a high standard and is surrounded by fantastic scenery and nature. With the wood burning stove for warmth, it’s well worth a visit out of season! Feb 2008.
