Property Description

Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel, Yenworthy Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen. Two traditional barns in the courtyard of the farm have been sympathetically converted to offer a very high standard of accommodation throughout.
Yenworthy is ideal for walkers - a rugged pathway leads from the farm down to a secluded beach and there is direct access to one of the most scenic sections of the South West Coast Path. There are 13 miles of footpaths to explore on the farm itself and it even has its own historic monument - an old Roman Fort at Old Burrow. A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest and rare species of butterflies and trees. The nearest sandy beach is Lee Abbey (5 miles) and there are excellent surfing beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton within easy driving distance. There are three pubs with restaurants within 3 miles and plenty of shops in Lynton and Lynmouth
(4 miles), Polock (7 miles), Minehead (13 miles) and Barnstaple (21 miles), which also has a popular covered market. River fishing and grazing for horses are available by arrangement. Shops 4 miles.

Spacious, beamed living/dining room with wood-burning stove, wooden floor and French door to garden. Spacious, modern, well-equipped, fitted kitchen with beams. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet including disabled facilities. Lower ground floor: Two double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room and toilet, one with additional set of bunk beds (for +2). Twin bedroom. Bathroom with shower and toilet. Separate toilet with basin.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Lovely spacious barn in beautiful surroundings. We received a very warm welcome. June 2012.
  2. The location is idyllic. The caretakers are extremely friendly and relaxed and so helpful. You have the added bonus of being able to explore the farm and its surroundings for hours and hours. A walk to a secluded beach is a must. The land and farm is full of history, with ice houses to explore, a conservation pine forest with trees grown from seeds collected hundreds of years ago from around the world. This little Sanctuary is "out of this World". Each visit just gets better and better. march 2012.
  3. Perfect location for the quiet get away. Clean and comfortable accommodation. Perfect for large groups. March 2012.
  4. Fantastic space for a large family group who enjoy time together and the country of Exmoor. A unique setting with a friendly and helpful welcome, but not suitable for those who want the bright lights and night life. Great walks from here, some challenging! Aug 2011.
  5. Very spacious and adaptable main living area. Log burning stove. Warm. Secluded. Large dishwasher. Dogs welcomed. Good pub(s)not too far away. Terrific local walks. Powerful showers. The wine and flowers to welcome us were a nice touch. A pleasant and helful key-holder. Nov 2010.
  6. Large spacious barn which was ideal for a family group of grandparents, daughters/son-in-laws and 4 active grandchildren. Great base for walking directly from the accommodation in magnificent countryside. Aug 2010.
  7. Very spacious, plenty of room/facilities for two families, very very quiet and in a lovely setting. July 2010.
  8. This is the second time we have stayed at Yenworthy Barn, it is a beautiful location both in summer and winter, well maintained, clean, with internet for those that cannot leave without IT, warm in winter, cool in summer. Hazel who looks after the Barn is extremely helpful and accommodating. Better than home from home. June 2010.
  9. Stylish and spacious accommodation, ideal for a large family gathering. Sept 2009.
  10. Peace and quiet, rural location, good local walks. Accommodation spacious and modern inside. July 2009.
  11. The location was absolutely stunning; secluded, peaceful and breath-taking. It was very easy to simply slip out of the barn to enjoy the countryside, but we were equally happy inside the accommodation. The caretaker/owners were very welcoming and dealt with a minor water problem very efficiently. The building itself was as stunning as the countryside; a beautiful old building, modernised very sensitively to make a wonderful space, ideal for a group of friends or a couple of families. April 2009.
  12. Large day time area. Aug 2009.
  13. The barn was really lovely, a great conversion in a beautiful location. The owner was exceptionally friendly and gave us some good information on local food/taxi service which we took full advantage of. The area was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the local vicinity. May 2008.
  14. We were lucky enough to have the barn for one of the warmest October days on record. The location of the barn was the perfect starting point for some very beautiful coastal walks. The barn itself was excellent, with plenty of room for everyone! Oct 2008.
  15. I would really recommend Yenworthy Barn for a group holiday. It’s a great place to stay and the owner made us feel very welcome. March 2008.
  16. A wonderful property in a wonderful setting. Sept 2008.
  17. Superb part of the country, excellent accommodation and location. Cycling not for the faint hearted! May 2007.
  18. Spacious. Beautifully located. Homely. Very warm and comfortable even when wind blasting outside! Dec 2007.
  19. My whole family really enjoyed our Christmas at Yenworthy Barn - although the fog stayed for the week. The Barn made up for the weather. Dec 2006.
