Property Description

A fine example of an historic hall in all its glory, this magnificent property has been completely designed around its key feature - the great hall. Set within a wing of the property, the holiday accommodation has been tastefully refurbished in a mix of traditional, streamline and contemporary style and its grandeur has such a presence upon the estate that was once the Welsh seat of the Williams Wynn family. The original hall burnt down in 1856, and a frieze which now surrounds the ballroom area tells of such a tale. The parkland that houses the hall was landscaped by Capability Brown, and is home to a communal tennis court and a five-a-side pitch. Grade II listed, the property also has strong connections with World War II.
Wynnstay Hall occupies a prominent position from which visitors can explore three great counties: Shropshire, Cheshire and mid/north Wales. The historic city of Chester, with its famous Rows, cathedral and city walls, is less than twenty minutes by car or ten minutes on the train and perfect for a day’s shopping. Llangollen - renowned as a world famous tourist stop, attracting thousands of visitors to its classic International Eisteddfod held in July every year lies approximately 5 miles distant. Shrewsbury, with its cosmopolitan air, is also great for shopping and, like Chester, has a wide variety of bars, clubs and top class restaurants. There are endless activities available within a 30-minute drive including white water rafting, go karting, paintballing, golf, fishing, horse riding as well as numerous beautiful walks amidst some of the most stunning countryside this area has to offer. Chester Zoo is but a short distance away and provides a wonderful day out for all the family, whilst for those interested in heritage, the National Trust properties of Chirk Castle (home to the Myddelton family until recently) and Erddig, probably the move evocative ‘upstairs downstairs’ house in Britain, are well worth a visit. A little further afield is the historic town of Ruthin, home to the beautifully restored Nantclwyd y Dre town house, and the Ruthin Craft Centre which features a programme of regular art and craft exhibitions throughout the year, and in the county town of Mold is Clwyd Theatr Cymru theatre. Shop 2 miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. An absolutely fabulous property in beautiful surroundings. A very impressive place to take friends and family. April 2012.
  2. The property was truly beautiful. The enormity is not given justice in the advert. We were overwhelmed by the grandeur and have already booked again for May. Nov 2011.
  3. A beautiful house, suitable for a special occasion, and with many nice touches to make it a comfortable stay. Be sure to bring a DVD or two to make sure of the cinema if the weather doesn’t oblige. We recommend a walk over the acquaduct before lunch at the Cornmill in Llangollen. ProAdventure do some amazing outdoor activities - you can find them and their excellent shop in Llangollen and there is alaways the steam train for the less active. Lots to see and do, but you may want to just stay in and enjoy this very special house. May 2011.
  4. We had a wonderful celebration at Wynnstay Hall, which is a very special place. You need to be agile to climb to the second floor where the cinema and bar area are. April 2011.
  5. The Welcome hamper was a surprise and got us going straight away without having to visit any shop. It is a well stocked kitchen with all the needed cutlery and utensils. Care taker Clair was very helpful and could not have made optimal use of the accomodation without her guided tour. One can enjoy whatever the weather. May 2011.
  6. The property is ideal for large celebrations. There is plenty of amenities required to cater for large groups, which can often be a problem with holiday lets. All other aspects were as described. Nov 2010.
  7. The quirkyness of it. The freedom of the space. Oct 2010.
  8. We liked the originality of the adaptation. This historic house enclosing a most ingenious modern ship-like interior to provide ensuite bedrooms and entertainment areas without entirely destroying the integrity of the Nineteenth century structure. The oddity of the attic bedrooms in the tower delighted our young grandchildren, who enjoyed having to climb between beams to get into bed. The grounds and the surrounding area were superb. Aug 2010.
  9. This property has the `wow’ factor, due to its size, and the unusual way in which it has been modified. An ideal place for a get together with a lot of friends. Nov 2009.
  10. A very interesting property large and spacious very suitable for a party of around 20. Sept 2009.
  11. The caretaker Clare was very helpful and friendly and made us all feel welcome. We would love to return to the property. Jan 2008.
  12. Thank you for a fab weekend in your big castle. We all ate, drank and been very merry. You will be highly recommended. Nov 2006.
  13. Wonderfully wonderful, thank you. Dec 2006.
  14. What a great place to spend a weekend with friends! So well kitted out for a country break, looking forward to coming back soon. Nov 2006.
  15. The accommodation was absolutely amazing. The photos on the website don’t do the place justice. All the features that have been included were perfect - the cinema with cordless headphones, in built sound system, bar, 3 dishwashers, a fantastic and well stocked kitchen, it was amazing! Dec 2008.
  16. Fantastic space and environment for the amount of people in our party. March 2008.
  17. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Sept 2008.
