Property Description

These charming, single storey detached holiday cottages (refs 19529 and 28762) are situated one mile from the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, and are also in the same grounds as refs 19605 and 27736. The beautiful Dudden Valley, Coniston Water and Lake Windermere are within half an hour’s drive, as well as South Lakes Animal Park at Dalton, Muncaster Castle and Gardens and Holker Hall and Garden. Visit attractions such as the popular owl sanctuary and the Ravenglass to Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway. Also visit the Roman Bath in the Eskdale Valley and the Hardknott Roman Fort. Lake Coniston, with its many walking and cycling routes, is also within easy reach. The reserves at Walney Island and Hodbarrow are great for bird-watching. Tennis courts are for hire in the village. Shops, pubs and restaurants 1 mile.

All on ground floor: Living room. Dining room with patio doors/kitchen. 1 double (6ft) bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Wooden floor throughout.

Oil central heating included (£30per week, £20 per short break October-April). Travel cot on request. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Dishwasher. Large enclosed decked terrace and furniture.

Both properties: Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Parking (1 car). No smoking. Friday to Friday.

  5. The cottage was absolutely lovely everything you could wish for - and we took our little dog. There were some lovely touches ie fresh flowers etc. The location was very good for the Western Lakes but the road to the village was a bit dodgy to walk along, so only ventured to the nearby village by car.   6. Great cottage in a beautiful village dont take much food with you as theres a great butchers, bakers and grocers - we would definitely go back. June 2011.
  7. The Cottage was a good base for the South Western Lake area. It had everything we needed for a week and decorated nicely. We really enjoyed our stay. Broughton in Furness is a 1 mile walk along a country road. We found the decked area not really suitable for leaving dog unaccompanied though. May 2011.

  9. It’s off the road so is quiet, the outside of the cottage is nice and old looking, with the interior modernised, but without ruining the rustic appeal of a stone cottage. Comfy sofa, amazing tv set up and plenty of pots/pans/etc to use in the kitchen. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and just what we needed! Nov 2010.

  11. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with everything in the kitchen you could possible need. The bed was wonderful and six feet wide!! On my own so got lost in it!! Very good position for accessing the southern lakes area. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Sept 2010.

  14. Very clean, nice decor, comfy sofa, nice size kitchen with decent kitchen utensils. Would definitely stay again. Only downside was that they charged too much for heating supplement and i felt this should have been included in the initial price. Dec 2009.

  17. Thorn Cottage is a lovely cottage for a small family and pet, it had loads of unexpected extras and is surrounded by other great little villages. Me and family absolutely loved our holiday and would definitely return. Sept 2008.
  18. Thorn Cottage is very well furnished and has all of the mod-cons to ensure it is a real home from home. The location is rural but is within easy access of the Lakes and surrounding areas. A thoroughly relaxing holiday. Aug 2008.
