Property Description

"Character cottages in a valley setting....within easy reach of the sea"

Nestling in a peaceful valley, these carefully converted barns and cottages (refs G77, G78, G79 and G81) lie just a short distance from the picturesque fishing villages of Polperro and Looe. Built of Cornish stone and with grey slate roofs, some of the holiday cottages date back to the 18th century, and retain original features such as high pitched ceilings, exposed rafters and natural stone walls. All the cottages have been furnished to a high standard. A shared parking area provides ample parking for each holiday cottage, which has its own garden, and additionally, there is shared access to 12 acres of the owner’s natural grounds. A pleasing combination of secluded sandy beaches and appealing Cornish fishing villages are to be found along the south coast, just a short drive away, where the coast stretches out for some ten miles or so between Polperro and Polruan. Clinging to a hillside, Polruan is just one example of a ‘picture-postcard’ village, whilst quaint Polperro – with its past smuggling connections and pilchard fishing – has its many admirers too. Closely linked with Daphne du Maurier, the estuary town of Fowey is home to the Literary Centre, where an exhibition outlines the author’s life and works. The 15th-century church of St Fimbarrus, which stands as the focal point in the town, marks the traditional end of the ancient Saints’ Way footpath – a route that links the north and south Cornish coasts. From the Esplanade, access is gained to several scenic walks around the coast as well as to the small beach of Readymoney Cove, whilst fine views of the estuary can be savoured from the nearby ruins of St Catherine’s Castle.
Handily situated just 3 miles from the A38, the cottages are situated in a location ideal for touring both the north and south coasts. Not far either is the magnificent Eden Project (15 miles) with its giant biomes reproducing the various climates of the world. Many quaint country pubs and restaurants are within a short drive. Shop 1½ miles.

A detached barn. Open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove, high pitched ceiling with exposed rafters, oak floor and modern fitted kitchen area. Large double bedroom with 5ft four-poster bed and high pitched ceiling with exposed rafters. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Lovely cottage and the cream tea on arrival was a very pleasant surprise. Log burner was great and lots of logs available. Cottage very quiet and well equipped, only criticism would be there was no tin-opener, we had to borrow one from another cottage. Sept 2012.
  2. Comfortable warm accommodation. May 2012.
  3. High standard worse the money in a very quiet area in middle of country side. Perfect for visiting the North - East of Cornwal, Looe and Mevagissey charming fisherman villages and Dartmoor national Park. A bit far though for the west part. April 2011.
  4. Lovely cottage and location, one of the best we have been to. Sept 2010
  5. Very pleasant, comfortable and relaxing. March 2010.
  6. Although the property is finished to a high standard the rooms require a few more electrical sockets, children today have many toys which need to be plugged in. The bathroom also needs a shaver socket, for razors and toothbrushes! Oct 2009.
  7. The accommodation was exactly as described, furnished to an excellent standard. The only criticism I would have was that the shower in the second bedroom wasn’t brilliant but overall it was very enjoyable and felt like home from home. Oct 2009.
  8. A lovely cottage in a truly countryside location. Loved the fact that it had two equally good bedrooms and two bathrooms, made sharing with friends so much easier, and was definitely a plus point. There was a good range of books in the bookcase which we did not need as the weather was excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend it. Sept 2009.
  9. Very tastefully decorated, home from home comfort. Sept 2009.
  10. Comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and with a bedroom and bathroom on the same floor as the living accommodation which was very suitable for my elderly mother. The only drawbacks were the enormously thick and heavy duvet on the double bed and the fact that cooking was a matter of guesswork as nearly all the temperature indicators had been cleaned off the oven and hob dials. We liked the South facing patio with lovely view and the peaceful nature of the location. Oct 2009.
  11. High standard of accommodation, well equipped and in a very quiet situation. July 2009.
  12. Excellent property, owners very welcoming, with cream tea on arrival. Very peaceful. Will be booking again for next year. May 2009.
  13. Wood Peckers barn was excellent value for money very comfortable and we will be going back. We would also recommend it to friends and family. Feb 2009.
  14. Excellent accommodation with great attention to detail, everything you could need was provided. A lovely welcome tray of cream scones was particularly welcome after a long journey. Sept 2008.
  15. What an outstanding cottage. Beautifully decorated to a very high standard, all possible comforts for a marvelous stay. Situated in a gorgeous location, highly recommended. May 2008.
  16. Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and we were made to feel very welcome. Cornwall has plenty of enjoyable and varied things to do for whole family, especially if weather not always dry, as in our case. Eden Project, cycling on Camel Trail and Tintagel great days out. Aug 2008.
  17. A very high quality accommodation, excellent facilities for elderly or disabled. Good location for all surrounding attractions. Beautiful cottage gardens. July 2007.
  18. Very well furnished/fitted out property which we would highly recommend. May 2006.
