Property Description

Overlooking a secluded valley, just 8 miles from Woolacombe’s long sandy beach, these three superb holiday properties each enjoy their own enclosed garden area, and are peacefully set down a mile long made-up private road. Close to the owner’s home, they have been imaginatively and beautifully converted from former farm buildings, incorporating glass frontages to take advantage of the lovely views over the stream-bordered paddocks which lead to beautiful woodland walks. Children love getting to know the bunch of friendly animals, which include miniature ponies and donkeys, llamas, pet sheep and small flock of traditional breed hens.
Perfect for a relaxing holiday, the area holds a wealth of attractions. The ancient town of Barnstaple, with its Domesday associations, lies just 5 miles distant. Here the visitor can find a good selection of shops, restaurants, museums, a theatre and various sporting facilities, not to mention a 14th-century parish church, a fascinating Heritage Centre and a daily Pannier Market. For watersports enthusiasts, the beautiful beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands are a must, affording some of the finest windsurfing in Devon, as well as being a haven for sunbathers and sandcastle builders. Wonderful walking and riding can be enjoyed in the nearby Exmoor National Park (6 miles), where red deer roam the rugged moors and magnificent sea views can be admired from lofty cliffs and headlands.
Among the many places to visit within a 5 mile radius are Arlington Court (NT), with its collection of model ships and Victorian accessories, and Marwood Hill Gardens, complete with its string of lakes, rare shrubs and exotic trees. The resorts of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Lynton and Lynmouth are also easily accessible, each offering its own blend of seaside charm. Golf and sailing, 8 miles. Shops 5 miles, pub 3 miles.

Beautifully presented and the middle one of three cottages. Spacious light and airy, open-plan living/dining room with beamed ceiling and stunning views over paddocks and valley. Well-equipped kitchen area with stable door to patio and garden. Stairs to half-landing: Double bedroom. Bathroom with toilet. First floor: Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over-bath power shower and toilet.

  1. What a fabulous cottage. The owners were so friendly that they allowed our daughters 4 and 2 to feed their animals including llamas, horses and chickens, which they loved. The Owners were very friendly and helpful and even left us a cream tea in our cottage for our arrival. The cottage was like a home from home and I would highly recommend it. March 2012.
  2. Very relaxing location. no noise other than tree’s, birds & Sheep. Sept 2011.
  3. What a lovely holiday at Hewish Mill! It’s a lovely location - the drive is very long so it’s quiet and peaceful with lovely views. The weather wasn’t great for us so we didn’t manage to explore the farm as much as we’d have liked but the owners were very accommodating - letting our daughter help feed the lambs and chickens and allowing guests to roam anywhere they pleased! The animals were fantastic and so friendly. Like most of Devon there is an element of travel if you want to visit any attractions but the scenery makes up for this! Very highly recommended, would love to go back if we get chance. May 2011.
  4. Spacious, warm and comfortable holiday home in lovely, peaceful location. Welcoming owners who provided thoughtful ’extras’ on arrival. April 2011.
  5. Ideal quiet location. Great to have animals on site. The welcome food and wine was an excellent touch. Owners couldn’t have been more friendly. Sept 2010.
  6. The cottage was of a very high standard - very well cared for - and great thoughtfulness of peoples’ wants for a relaxing holiday. Sept 2010.
  7. The photos did not do justice to this jewel of accomodation in North Devon. It is such a peaceful retreat and the owners are on hand to welcome you and assist with every requirement that arises. The welcome pack of wine and a full Devon cream tea was really apreciated and every room had fresh flowers themed with the decor. Despite being out of mobile phone range, a payphone is provided inside the accomodation and free Wi-Fi access to the Internet is provided. A massive Gold Star to the owners. PS enjoy the Sheep, cats. dogs, llamas, donkeys chickens etc... they certainly know a good thing by staying there!! Sept 2010.
  8. Extremely spacious, clean, great facilities, very comfortable - exceeded our expectations. July 2010.
