Property Description

Dating back to the 1800s and originally owned by a corn merchant, this fascinating holiday property became a hive of activity for over a hundred years as the workshop of the joiner and carpenter. Retaining beams and with the original winch still in place, it is has been fully renovated, and is hidden away in a quiet courtyard behind the market place in Kirkbymoorside. There is much to do and see in this popular area, with places to visit including Helmsley, a pretty market town with a ruined castle; Pickering, home to the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway, and trips to Whitby or York - both of which are steeped in history. Shops and pubs 50 yards.

Beamed, well-equipped kitchen/dining room with tiled floor. Utility. Shower room and toilet. First floor: Spacious beamed living room with electric woodburner, wooden floor and French doors to balcony. Second floor: Double bedroom (6ft zip & link beds) with dressing room and en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

  1. Beautiful, spacious cottage in a great location. Good pubs and restaurants a short walk away. All the amenities you could want. Highly recommended. June 2012.
  2. We have stayed in several rental cottages over the years and this one rated very highly indeed. This accommodation ticks most of the boxes that we look for - most important are cleanliness and functionality. We could not find a single spec of dust nor cobweb throughout the vast property and everything worked very well. It is a spacious place, spread over three floors which can be seen as a good thing or a long way to walk to deliver breakfast in bed etc... I don’t want to say anything negative about our stay because the owners have put a great deal of thought into it and I wouldn’t want to malign their efforts at all, (but the bath is simply toooo big!) Most people would look on a big bath as a GOOD thing but I like to relax with a book and a glass and enjoy a long soak (especially after a day on the moors) Not to drown! I’m average height at 5’ 10" but my feet didn’t reach the end to stop me from sliding under water! But the (2) showers are very good indeed and the warmth and dryness most welcome. It is quite a querky place with a feeling of security; only metres from the high street but hardly any sound of traffic or pub-goers. This property has many aspects that I would like to see in my own home but still felt like a holiday cottage. March 2012.
  3. It was lovely to arrive to a spotless property with lovely personal touches such as tea, coffee, washing up liquid, cooking oil, kitkats in jar on the table. Those little touches always make you feel welcome. The spacious living room offered a lovely relaxing atmosphere and the bedroom was just amazing, beautiful furniture and lovely finishing touches throughout. Just perfect! March 2012.
  4. The property is immense! It is fantastically decorated and furnished with a sofa to die for. It provides a romantic getaway with close amenities. It’s like a secret location, where you go through a garage door to an intimate enclosed courtyard. It made us smile the second we stepped though the door. The bedroom is a fabulous size with the added glory of the winch cogs. The Kings Head Hotel across the road provided a lovely meal with a decent hand pulled pint. It was a good base for visiting nearby Helsmley Castle, Byland Abbey and Rivereux Abbey. Jan 2012.
  5. A very spacious and relaxing placing to stay especially for two people, also very private. Great location in the village pubs, shops, cafe and even a curry house all within a very short walk. Easy access to North Yorkshire Moors if interested in exploring this area. Oct 2011.
  6. Woodcarvers Workshop is one of the best holiday homes we’ve ever stayed in. It’s a lovely property, extremely spacious and fitted out to the highest possible standard. It has a unique feel to it and is very secluded. Kirkbymoorside is a great place to stay. We highly recommend both the Kings Head and the George & Dragon for lunch or dinner, as well as other pubs and restaurants in nearby towns and villages. The village market on Wednesday was also very enjoyable. We were also very lucky with the weather which was warm and sunny almost all the times we were there. The people are very friendly. The scenery in that part of Yorkshire is breathtaking, as is the coast at places such as Filey. We definitely intend booking this holiday home again. Very highly recommended. April 2011.

  8. Excellent cottage, clean, warm, spacious and very comfortable. It is in an ideal location for touring the whole of Yorkshire. Plenty to do in the area with lots of places to visit. Kirbymoorside has several places to eat and three pubs which all sell "real ale"! May 2011.

  11. The cottage was beautiful and located in a lovely part of North Yorkshire. The locals were very friendly when we went to watch the football in the local pub and York centre was only half an hour/45 minute drive away. Highly recommend visiting Helmsley Castle as it is only about 10 minutes in the car and has several pubs for lunch and a drink. March 2011.

Couldn’t believe the amount of room for 2 people - a family would get lost in it!In the heart of town with all amenities in a 100 yards - pubs/restaurant/bank/post office/shops.
