Property Description

On the edge of North Yorkshire Moors National Park dating back to the 1800s these charming holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location with uninterrupted views of the open countryside in the beautiful, peaceful village of Brompton by Sawdon. The cottages were built before 1853 in the village that is the birthplace of aeronautics and where William Wordsworth got married. A short drive from the pretty village of Thornton le Dale and the ancient market town of Pickering where one can board the NYM steam train, sit back and relax as it chugs its way through the glorious Esk Valley into Goathland, Heartbeat’s very own village. The ancient sea port of Whitby famed for its connection with Captain James Cook and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the elegant seaside town of Scarborough are just a short drive. Dalby Forest boasting cycle tracks, bridle paths, off roading and stunning barbecue and picnic areas easily accessed. With golf, fishing and horse riding locally there is something for all the family. Shops 300 yards, pub 2 miles, restaurant 1½ miles.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. A lovely quiet cottage located in a picturesque village. We were made to feel very welcome by Jackie and enjoyed a wonderful welcome basket of tea, fantastic cake and delicious fresh eggs from the farm. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was very well equipped and clean. We had a very relaxing week. There are lots of places to visit in the area - the coastline, moors and unspoilt villages. Sept 2012.
  2. Fabulous cottage, in a lovely quiet village. There is absolutely everything you could possibly need there, including a room full of toys and books to keep both adults and children amused! The fresh farm eggs are also the best I have ever tasted! Also very friendly owners. We have been to this cottage twice already, and would definitely go again. June 2012.
  3. This property exceeded all expectations. The owner couldn’t have been more helpful and the property had everything you could need and more. April 2012.
  4. We had already stayed at this property on the recommendation of a friend, before it was handled by your company, and have returned a few times as it is one of the best cottages we have ever been in.It has everything I could wish for in a holiday cottage in terms of comfort, cleanliness and equipment and there is always a warm welcome from the owner. Its position is handy for the countryside or coast and there are several good eating establishments in the area. April 2012.
  5. Very relaxing, comfortable holiday cottage with everything you could possibly need. Very friendly owners. Close to so many fantastic places to visit. Great. March 2012.
  6. Stayed here a few times, perfect quiet country cottage with the advantages of all mod cons. Perfectly placed to explore all of the Yorkshire coasts tourist attractions, either by your own car or local transport, which is available from the village. The road is very quiet in front of the cottage, varying from the postman, farm traffic to horses and dog walkers. Really well equipped cottage with everything from children’s games to a slow cooker. The cottage has a family lounge plus a smaller "snug" sitting room which is great if you have teens and they want some privacy. Was lucky enough to be shown the smaller cottage that is available at this location, and I was really impressed how beautiful and large that was too. I will definitely consider booking the smaller property if Gunluck isn’t available. A brilliant, safe, clean, quiet and relaxing holiday can be definitely promised with both properties in a very comfortable country-stylish accommodation. March 2012."
  7. A fantastic place for a holiday, beautiful cottage in fantastic surroundings. The owners are lovely and go out of their way to make your stay perfect with cake on arrival and then letting the children see the lambs. We will be going back as soon as possible. Very highly recommended. Feb 2012.
  8. This was our second stay at Gunluk Cottage as we were very impressed by the first stay. The cottage was very clean and with person touches in decoration and fixtures and fittings. The owners very friendly and made us feel welcome. The personal touch of a cake and tea on our arrival was very acceptable. Although the weather was very poor, on our arrival back at the cottage after a day spent out was very welcoming and cosy, the log burner was very warm. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and would again book a holiday myself. Nov 2011.
  9. The cottage was in a stunning location, very clean and comfortable. The welcome we received from the owners was amazing and the welcome basket much appreciated. We were visiting friends and family and felt completely at home in gunluck. Will definitely be staying again. We have made 2 new friends in the shape of Jackie and Chris (the owners). Oct 2011.
  10. Lovely cottage, very well equipped & comfortable. Owners very welcoming & friendly. July 2011.
  11. A very high standard of accommodation and excellent value. The homemade welcome basket really gives you a taste of the owners’ hospitality. July 2011.
  12. The property where we stayed was wonderful as was the location, there is plenty to do if you want or peace and quiet if you prefer. July 2011.
  13. We were very impressed. Every piece of equipment imaginable was available, down to chidrens toys for the patio area. Washing machine and tumble drier were particularly useful with small children! We did not expect baby bath and changing mat to be available too. April 2011.
  14. We had already been to this property before it was with your company and liked it so much that we wanted to visit again. Good countryside and lots of good places to eat. April 2011.
  15. The cottage is set in lovely surroundings. It is extremely clean and has everything you might want from a holiday cottage and lots more, the owners are very friendly but never intrude on your privacy. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone. Feb 2011.
  16. The cottage was clean, well presented and well appointed. It contained everything you could ever need for an enjoyable holiday. The owners were friendly and approachable. They left us a wonderful welcome basket containing bread, milk, fresh eggs from their farm, home-made jam and chocolate muffins, teabags and sugar - what a lovely welcome! They also went out of their way to include us in life on their farm, taking the time to show our children the newly born lambs. The cottage was in a lovely location in a quiet little village, but still close enough to lots of great places to visit. Feb 2011.
  17. Just a perfect country cottage. Quiet, but not far from a town. Ideal base for a holiday, but so well equipped that you don’t need to go out, if you just want to stay in and relax. Immaculately clean and so very spacious, the pictures and virtual tour don’t show the property to its best...many more rooms and far more space than you think. Not alot of traffic on the road infront of the cottage, mainly farm traffic..horses...etc so don’t be put off by that fact. Proper thick cottage walls and quite sound proof!Best cottage i’ve ever stayed in..and comes with the perfect rocking chair! I’ll repeat the only word to describe this cottage.."PERFECT". Feb 2011.
  18. Extremely well fitted-out with everything needed for a very comfortable stay. Many welcoming touches from welcome pack, arrangement of fresh flowers and efficient central heating system. NOv 2010.
  19. The property was of a very high standard, far larger than we expected and exceptionally well equipped. Nov 2010.
  20. I have stayed with a few cottages from your company and this one I feel is far the best. It was a proper country cottage and the pictures of it on your website do not show it as good as it really is. It’s like Dr.Whos’ Tardis inside, really large and extremely well equipped. Everything in the cottage from the egg cups to the beds is of the highest quality. When looking at this property on the website/brochure, it looks like a small terrace on the side of a road..which you may worry about being noisy (neighbours and /or traffic) which i hasten to add, other than a postman/small amount of farm traffic is non existant. The cottage is immaculate and is suited to a range from a single person (i’ve stayed alone here) to a family with small children/teenagers..enough space to move and very thick ,sound proofed walls. It really is a great cottage. Aug 2010.
