Property Description

Standing within its own substantial grounds and enjoying fine countryside views, this spacious detached holiday cottage has been completely renovated and refurbished throughout. Offering all modern facilities and comforts, it nevertheless retains a great deal of character with its wealth of beams, wood-burning stove in inglenook fireplace and some flagstone floors. A patio area to the front of the house offers opportunities for barbecues and sitting out, whilst surrounding the property are extensive grounds (with no near neighbours) and lawned area, planted with trees. The property also boasts a 7 seater hot tub, which makes the most perfect place in which to relax and unwind after a long day touring this delightful area.
Set in a peaceful rural location, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it has easy access to the coast. The English Heritage coastline lies within walking distance (1 mile), as does the local beach. Picturesque Clovelly, with its cobbled street leading down to a tiny harbour, is just a short drive away. Historic Bideford, a prosperous port during the heyday of trade with America by sea, lies 18 miles distant, its most famous landmark being the bridge (made up of 24 arches) spanning the River Torridge since the Middle Ages. Traditional West Country crafts are displayed in Old Ford House, and pleasant boat trips can be enjoyed on the river. Bude, with its beaches and town attractions, is just 11 miles distant and several fantastic surfing beaches are within easy reach, as well as water sports on the Tamar Lakes, 7 miles distant.
Activities are plentiful in the area, catering for the whole family. Popular theme attractions offer complete days out for children in the younger age range, while more traditional pursuits exist locally which include golf, fishing, riding, sailing and surfing. Shop 6 miles (also 2½ miles, Mon-Sat am only) and pub 1/2 mile.

Customer Comments

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Quite difficult to find and very narrow lanes - Sat Nav had us going round in circles for a while but well worth it in the end. It poured with torrential rain for 2 of our 4 days there but it was still wonderful to snug up in the very cosy cottage. Went with our adult children and their partners and it was wonderful. Plenty of room and options for all so you never felt on top of one another. If you want total rest and relaxation in a beautifully equiped cottage - this is the place. I can totally recommend this cottage. Sept 2012.
  2. Great facilities, had everything we needed. Lovely welcome gifts that were appreciated by all. A little off the beaten track but worth the extra few mins drive every day. One of the nicest places we have rented. June 2012.
  3. This is a fantastic property. It was our second visit and once again, didn’t fail to make us feel at home and enjoy a wonderful family time. The cottage is beautiful. Exceptionally clean and warm and so very homely. Terrific walks and a very good play area for children as well as a really nice spa for the adults - very welcome after a long walk! We would thoroughly recommend Welcombe Park and look forward to booking our next visit soon. Dec 2011.
  4. Well equipped, comfortable, two living areas so great for TV or quieter times. Accessible to many places, warm and cosy, would be so lush at Christmas!! The hot tub is also an added bonus. Recommend. Oct 2011.
  5. Excellent location, great place to relax and safe for the children...Real Devon. Aug 2011.
  6. The cottage was exceptionally clean and the hot tub and playground was the icing on the cake, excellent for the whole family. The cottage was just a little bit too far off the beaten track but it wasn’t a problem once we found it. Aug 2011.
  7. The cottage is lovely end very well equipped. It is a very quiet spot (you literally hear only the occasional sheep or cow) with just one car passing per day. Lovely for children, with all kinds of playthings in the garden. The garden itself is beautiful, with nice flowers. July 2011.
  8. Excellent property for families; perhaps in some bedrooms could do with a few more hooks on doors & chairs. Hot tub and Children’s play area a real bonus. The Old Smithy pub was VERY family friendly and accommodating as far as food was concerned. (Our family aged 2 to 74) had a very enjoyable holiday. June 2011.
  9. The directions to the property were not very clear, my husband and I were fine as we had to stop to pick up the key and the very nice owners put us in the right direction. The accomodation was clean, comfortable and roomy, a real home from home. If you want crowds and people then this is NOT the place for you. Our purpose was a family get together, ideal for this purpose as plenty to keep the children amused i.e. trampoline, games, swings etc. and the adults hot tub and admiring the views. Beach absolutely amazing, well worth a visit. March 2011.
  10. Well proportioned. Brilliantly equipped with lots of added extras-washing powder etc. Very cosy. Feb 2011.
  11. Although the property looked small from the outside it was very spacious and full of character. Sept 2010.
  12. A lovely clean property. From the moment we arrived it felt very comfortable and homely - which was most welcome after a seven hour trip! Excellent hot tub that was great fun and a great stock of toys for the kids. All in all a great property. Aug 2010.
  13. The cottage had nearly everything we could possibly wish for a UK holiday. It was the first time ever that we had booked a cottage and used it for a family get together. The cottage was clean . it had lots of facililities and the play area was excellent for both adults and for thye little ones. July 2010.
  14. Completely tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. June 2010.
  15. Welcoming, chocolates and wine etc. appreciated. Garden beautiful. Play area and hot tub well used by our family. Very clean and well furnished and decorated. Will go again. June 2010.
  16. The property was clean and well maintained with some wonderful personal touches. May 2010.
  17. Very complete and practical, we didn’t miss a thing. Also very cosy with all the original features of the house. Everything was thought of, and there were thoughtful details. You can see the owner cares about their guests. The best house we’ve ever rented! April 2010.
  18. Excellent play facilities outside for all ages. Superb views. Loved the hot tub!! Beautifully decorated inside with a great log fire. March 2010.
  19. Exceptionally clean, fantastic welcome pack including wine and chocolates. Great sunsets with bucket loads of peace and quiet surroundings. March 2010.
  20. Hot tub. Feb 2010.
