Peacefully situated within the lovely grounds of the owner’s garden where honey bees are kept, Hazelnut Cottage (ref 24727) and Walnut Cottage (ref 17615) are well-equipped holiday homes set next door to each other in a quiet rural location. The historic market town of Bury St Edmunds is a 10-minute drive away, with its award-winning abbey gardens, cathedral and Georgian theatre. There are several NT properties in the area including Ickworth House, Melford Court and Lavenham Guildhall. Cambridge with its ancient university, colleges and punting, Newmarket for the races, Ipswich and the Suffolk and Norfolk coasts are all within easy reach. Shops and pubs 1 mile. Walnut Cottage (ref 17615) and Hazelnut Cottage (ref 24727) can be booked together to sleep 6.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite bathroom with toilet, 1 twin with en-suite shower room with double shower and toilet.

Electric heaters, electricity, bed linen and towels included. DVD. Video. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Wi-fi. Shared use of washing machine and tumble dryer in external utility. Garden with patio and furniture. Shared use of landscaped gardens. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). No smoking. No children under 12 years due to pond in garden.

  1. Very convenient to major supermarkets. Some excellent eating out at Six Bells in Bardwell and Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds. Most pubs meals just get by as adequate. June 2012.
  2. Ok, we were happy with it. Bathroom has no property facility for hair washing. If sun beds were available for summer/good weather use that would be a bonus. Proper guidelines on hand for heater use and shower use. Wi-fi access also. Overall a lovely place to stay, which we have 3 times. Very nice new owners. April 2012.

  13. This cottage is ideal for people who have slight mobility problems. The en suite facilities provided both a bath and a walk-in shower, essential when someone has difficulty climbing in and out of baths. The welcome pack was appreciated after our long journey. The coffee, tea, milk and cakes set out in the kitchen allowed us to have a refreshing drink before we unpacked. The flowers on the table added a homely touch. Aug 2009.

  15. This was a real home from home. Very comfortable accommodation and beautiful, extensive gardens to wander round. The owners couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming, and on arrival, we found a vase of flowers from the garden, a container filled with home made cakes and fresh milk in the fridge. Of the two bedrooms, the twin room is a recent addition, very light and airy with French windows. The double room was fitted out beautifully, and its en-suite was large and very light. The kitchen was small but very well equipped and adequate. The owner is a joiner and the woodwork throughout is stunning! There are plenty of places to walk within a short drive, and literally across the road is the entrance to a private school which has many acres of grounds and a public right of way - well worth a stroll. A longer walk through the grounds will take you as far as the next village. We would highly recommend this cottage and hope to stay again. May 2009.
