Winners of 2010/2011 tourist board Gold Awards, these two delightful, detached holiday cottages are tucked away in the heart of the rolling Shropshire countryside near the village of Wentnor, with the East Onny river running through the garden. Each has its own garden and guests are welcome to enjoy the shared grounds with orchards. There is a network of paths in the area for walkers and cyclists and the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley are close by. Bishop’s Castle with its ‘House on Crutches’ and other historic buildings tumbling down the main street is well worth exploring and the Acton Scott Working Farm is also within easy reach. Golf in Church Stretton. Shop and pub ¼ mile.

  1. A comfortable and well-appointed cottage in a beautiful location in the Shropshire hills. The owners were particularly friendly and helpful. Two excellent pubs close by with good food at reasonable prices. Oct 2012.
  2. A charming group of three old buidings are maintained to a high standard by the friendly, relaxed owners Gilly and Brian. They invite guests to wander their four acres along with their very free-range chickens which lay wonderful tasting eggs! July 2012.
  3. Gill And Brine went out of there away to make sure your stay with them was great, with home made cakes and frest eggs when you got there, that went down very well after a long drive. The cottage was like home from home, they have thought of everything that you might need for you stay there. The hens are very firendy, , when you open you door they will come to see you, and if you have kids they can feed them. It was very cosy with the wood burner on a damp evening. The only thing I can say is there are 2 pubs that you can walk to from cottage, it is a shame that you cant take dogs in the pub. May 2012.

  5. A very comfortable cottage. Owners live on site and are extremely helpful and welcoming. Home baked cake, milk, eggs from owners’ hens and butter on arrival. Would point out that this is not only a non-smoking cottage but a non-smoking site. Beautiful countryside. Local shop and pub third of a mile away. Pub was excellent value and very welcoming.   6. Excellent cottage in quiet beautiful country side. Very well equipped, with extremely comfortable beds.When we arrived we received a home-made delicious cake and some new laid eggs. On a very wet & windy day, our owner brought in a delicious cream tea.Would certainly come again. April 2012.
  7. This a fantastic cottage with everything possible available and included and friendly helpful owners who respect privacy. The surrounding area has some of the best possible countryside, walking and villages. March 2012.
  8. Set in outstanding countryside. This beautiful property is immaculately maintained and cleaned to the highest standard. The hosts, Gilly and Bryan, were wonderfully welcoming and helpful without being at all obtrusive. Tea, milk, home-made cake and fresh eggs (from their hens) were waiting for us upon arrival. One of the best cottage holidays we have ever had! July 2011.
  9. Very friendly owners & a well appointed property. Everything provided for the first night including fresh eggs from the hens that wander around, not to mention scrummy cake, very welcome after a long journey from Scotland! Nice touches include the toiletries & the makings of a pasta meal, along with tea, coffee, butter & milk. Local shop within walking distance provides everything else you would need. The local pub, also within walking distance provides a welcoming atmosphere & good food. Limited menu but seemed freshly cooked. A lovely area to explore particularly when the weather is as good as we had for our week. July 2011.

  12. Walkmill Lodge is wonderful. We had a superb holiday here, South Shropshire is the most beautiful county I have ever seen and the people so very friendly and welcoming. The property is the best we have every stayed in, it is extremely well equipped, warm (thank goodness!) and ideal for the two of us plus Chester (bichon frise) who could play out in the completely safe back garden. Just as well, as he was terrified of the cockerel. Total wuss!! Welcome coffee cake, home made marmalade and eggs. Superb location - don’t hesitate to try it. May 2011.
