Property Description

A beautifully renovated Provençal ’mas’ with extensive views across the Durance Valley towards the Luberon hills. This lovely semi-detatched property is divided into two halves, so is ideal for two families or a large group on holiday together. The 25 hectares of grounds descend in terraces from the house and pool area, with fruit trees, vines and woodland. It is a magnificent setting and the good quality of the interior makes it a truly special property. The good-sized private pool is a converted former ’bassin’ set in the terraced grounds just below the house (families with children: please note also that there is a smaller stone water ’bassin’, above ground next to the West Wing which is about 1.5m deep). Both are of a very good standard with some lovely tiled floors, and French windows giving onto the large patio which fronts the house. The discreet caretaker lives in an independent cottage in the grounds. The lovely villages of the Luberon and beautiful town of Aix-en-Provence close by.

  • NB: There is a steep unguarded drop from the terrace and that a canal passes at the far side of the grounds, about 150m from the house. Max. occupancy is 17 (including 2 babies).

  1. Ideal for a family holiday - we were 8 adults and seven children. Super pool and grass area for games. Ate every meal outside on the patio. Excellent walking and exploring in the area. July 2012.
  2. La Garde was the venue for a family holiday comprising 10 adults and 5 children. We were all comfortably accommodated, with enough bedrooms and beds for everyone. The tables outside, beneath the paperbark maples, was our base for the holiday when we weren’t by the pool, and was the perfect location not just for meals, but for afternoon digesting and evening chatting. The pool was wonderful, and the poolside was a beautiful spot, surrounded by trees and a view to the nearby hills, but within sight of the house for safety. The house was well-equipped, comfortable and elegantly furnished. We would like to return, possibly for longer next time! June 2012.
  3. Our stay at La Garde was magical. The house is very spacious and tastefully furnished, with lots of ambience. Although the house had two nice dining rooms, we had all of our meals outside enjoying the wonderful views of the house, pool, lawn and gardens, and Cadenet in the distance over the Durance. The house was clean, well maintained, and virtually unchanged from our stay at La Garde 10 years ago. La Garde is a true gem. We hope to come back soon. May 2012.
  4. The accommodation was perfect for the size of our party, with plenty of bathroom/toilet facilities. The caretaker was discreet but available if necessary. The swimming pool location was excellent. We had a brilliant week and would certainly consider returning to the property. May 2012.
  5. Excellent for large family holiday. Really good pool and large grass area for games - football, cricket, boule etc. Patio overlooked pool and lawns so easy to watch children. Lady caretaker in adjacent cottage very helpful, but not intrusive. Superb furnishings. July 2011.

  7. La Garde is a beautiful family holiday house set in glorious grounds with a fantastic outlook over its own vines and poppy field (June) to the Luberon hills in the distance. Our family of 16 enoyed every minute of our stay. May 2007.
  8. This property is unique in our experience. The guest is made to feel at home to a much greater degree than is normal. As well, the property itself is stunning. A wonderful place for two families to meet for an unforgettable vacation. June 2008.
  9. The nearest shops/supermarkets are about 1.5 miles from La Garde making transport a necessity. The concierge does not speak English but was always available. All-in-all a very satisfactory holiday villa with an outstanding swimming pool and spacious play area on the lawns. July 2008.
