Property Description

Nestling into a hillside in the beautiful Duddon Valley these delightful holiday cottages have been converted from a stone and slate built Bobbin Mill, constructed during the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century. Brackens (LJ5) is a detached cottage on one level looking out onto the pretty grounds and brook, with spacious living/dining room. Coopers (LJ6) is on the upper level of the original mill with level access from the rear, with wonderful views along the Duddon Valley from its living room. Original beams, traditional furniture and lovely views characterise each cottage, whilst the peaceful lawned grounds with picnic bench overlooking the babbling brook (Hole House Gill) and 7 acres of natural woodland stretching up the hill, are there for guests’ enjoyment. Each cottage has its own sitting-out area with garden furniture. The whole area is a walker’s paradise, close to Eskdale and the Langdale Fells which are accessed via the stunning Hard Knott Pass, as well as Wasdale with amazing views of Wast Water. History is an important part of this beautiful western Lake District area and Muncaster Castle is a short drive away, a superb day out for all the family. The steam train can be boarded at Ravenglass and a trip along Eskdale is not to be missed. A scenic drive to Duddon Bridge leads to the pretty small market town of Broughton-in-Furness which has very good pubs and eating places, as well as shops. Just a few miles further is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton, whilst three miles of clean award-winning sandy beaches stretch from Haverigg northwards along the coastline. Shop 1 mile, pub 3 miles.

Beamed living room with open fire and view along Duddon Valley. Beamed dining room with kitchen area. Double bedroom with 5ft bed. Small twin bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Selected comment(s) from customers who have enjoyed staying at this property:
  1. Lovely location if the weather had been better. June 2012.
  2. If you enjoy making the most of the area’s walks, many of which start from the doorstep, you couldn’t choose a better base. The owners are delightful people who will help in any way they can. The location is very much ’away from it all’ approached by some very narrow roads, so drive carefully! August 2011.
  3. Excellent property with a warm welcome from the owners - a really great place to explore Dunnerdale and Eskdale from. July 2011.
  4. The cottage is perfectly located for walking and running in woodland, riverside and fells. It was clean, cosy and comfortable and every detail was thought of - even old towels for muddy dog paws. We were given a very warm welcome which included a pint of milk and packet of delicious cookies. We would definitely recommend it for a relaxing holiday any time of the year. April 2011.

There was plenty of information about things to do and places to visit. The garden had lots of things to do for children, and although a rural retreat, was very enjoyable for the family. I would highly recommend this property. July 2010.
  8. The small things like towels for the dog’s dirty feet, washing up liquid, tissues, soap, plenty of clothes hangers, etc. Also having towels provided. April 2010.
  9. We received a very warm welcome from the owners. The accommodation was cosy in a very pretty setting. Read the description carefully as the accommodation was on the ground floor only.
